Title: What WI to choose?
Post by: alexb on July 24, 2006, 12:05:26 AM
Hi All,

Ok, I\'m looking at water injection since seeing shockingly high intake temps lately with my std intercooler.

Usual suspects: Cooling Mist or Aquamist

Plus I saw via their ebay ad that Power Developments supplied Ross for the Dragon RX. And we know how good that is :)

But never heard of Power Developments WI...

Anyone prepared to offer any opinions of their WI?

Cheers,
Alex

Good questions - I\'m also lookin gto go the WI route so interested in the answers.

Also, assuming I want to keep the windscreen washer bottle for windscreen use, where to put the water bottle/bag/container?  If it goes in the boot then is a dual pump and swirl-pot solution a good idea?  Any ideas of costs, which kit works, etc?

I know that Gareth (gmogle) has used the UK-spec rear washer bottle which is huge compared to the jap spec one, so that is probably the neatest option as it keeps the boot free. All the kits I\'ve seen just have the pump drawing from the container so that seems ok.

Cheers,
Alex

Iain - I\'m running a single pump in the boot along with a UK spec washer bottle and it works remarkably well (this is a pretty basic cooling mist system).

One advantage of the systems with shurflow pumps is that they\'re (allegedly) fully alcohol safe so you have the option of running a higher ratio of methanol or ethanol than the aquamist systems

Cool.  What about having the WI boost related?  I\'d want something that comes on at 0.8 bar and above...

Iain, most kits are boost related.

That\'s how mine\'s set up. Mine is just the cheap single stage system which cuts in at a pre-defined boost threshold though you\'d probably be better off with a dual stage or even better, a variable system.
Prices are all on the coolingmist site. Delivery was within a week and allow for VAT and duty @ around 5%

Coolingmist looks good $569.85 for the variable pressure kit.  Cheaper for the 2 stage and much less for the single.  Will have a look at space once the single\'s gone in and see if I can squeeze a tank in the engine bay then :)

If you spend an extra £20 with ERL you then wont be hit with import duty and VAT. Plus you also get the backup should things go wrong and with installation a bit quicker than from the US.

Whatever system you go with I fitted an override switch in the cockpit so I can turn it on/off whenever without having to hit a certain boost level. Its good for keeping the air temps low so when you do boost it your not at already high temps, esp in this weather.
