Title: Air filter advice
Post by: johnnybbad on July 23, 2006, 03:20:57 PM
Afternoon all, just after a bit of advice regarding my air filter. i currently have an aftermarket filter on my fd, but due to being sick of the noise was thinking about changing it back to standard air box. Will i see any major drop in performance ? Thanks John

The only problem i see with the standard airbox sysem is the amount of air that it gets from the ducting panel infront of it...the opening on the airbox is very small. I cant see why you wont get similar gains from a modified stock airbox and k&N panel filter

Yeah i was looking at getting a standard airbox and using a k&n panel filter, just not sure how it would effect the running of the car because its not stock

Some say you get colder air with the airbox and some say you get less air being more restrictive.

Are you refering to the "Moo" noise created by the airpump?

I had a standard airbox running a K&N panel filter, but i also used a racing beat cold air duct to get more air into the \'box - seemed to work a treat. Only getting rid of it \'cos i\'m going single, otherwise i would keep that set up as it worked well and as far as insurance is concerned it looks completely standard!!

Its the noise of the filter sucking in air which is driving me mad !

Can\'t remember to be honest - it came to about £150-£200 or so for the duct and the k&n - i think it came from rotechniks but any racing beat supplier ought to be able to help you out.

Probably a couple of hours to fit - but you have to factor in i am a complete dunce with anything like that so ought to be able to be done a lot quicker!
