Title: Repairing a/c
Post by: RAW on July 19, 2006, 10:38:50 AM
i took my car to an a/c recharging place the other week, but after testing the system the bloke said there was a leak and it couldn\'t be filled.  there is no gas left at all. he said something about using uv light and a special gas to test where the leak is, but that he didn\'t have the facilities to do it, and that it\'s really expensive.

i\'m dying in this heat! :2Mad are there any a/c gurus who know the best way to sort it out whilst being kind to my wallet!?  i guess it could be a hole in the condensor, or a pipe or seal along the way.

cheers

I used a guy who was really good. He comes out to you too, i shall see if i can dig out his info for you - but, I\'m sure in this weather, they are ALL very, very busy and booked up, so doubtful you\'ll be able to get anyone easily.

The bloke sounds like a complete k**b to me any half decent a/c place should be able to sort it for you. There are many ways to check for leaks so i would suggest you tried another place. It should\'nt cost much more to do a dye test or use a sniffer machine.I\'m sure halfords do a leak sealer and top up cans for a/c but obviously it wont work if theres a big hole in the condenser and i\'m sure it\'s only for use r134a systems that are on later fd\'s.

Cheers Danny
