Hi,
Yesterday when I driving home my RX seemed a little hessitant but thought nothing of it as I was wearing big boots and thought it might just be me being a muppet!
When I parked it up at home and popped the bonnet to let it cool down I went in the house and heard then engine note changing.
I went back to the car and it was revving up a little to maybe 1200-1500 then dropping back to normal, then dropping right down to about 500rpm then picking back up again. When it was doing this there was a "click" audible from inside the car as if something was switching and causing it to do this.
I tried the throttle and slowly raised the revs, it would go up a little then kind of pause at different points, sometimes around 1500rpm then would kind of "click" and the revs would raise quickly about another 500-1000rpm.
I didn\'t have time to really check anything out but decided to have a look this evening. I checked the oil for any loss and was full so not lost any visibly since the last service which was nearly 2000 miles ago. I started it up and it idled ok for a couple of minutes then started to get a little lumpy, I revved the car and let it settle and seemed find again.
Now it was at this point I began paying attention to the oil pressure guage. I can\'t be 100% but I am pretty sure that it is now reading lower than it did before yesterday.
At idle it is reading about 40 lb/in whereas before I\'m pretty sure it was sat at 60. As you increase the revs it does rise to about 60 around the 2500rpm mark and then keeps rising when as the revs do upto 120ish like it used to. I\'m not sure if it is dipping like it did at 4.5-5k.
When I was driving this evening a couple of times when changing gear it did drop sharply and then raise again as soon as the gear was engaged and clutch raised.
Has anyone any ideas as to what could be going on? Especially regarding the "click" that was happening before the revs changing?
Cheers
Gareth
Not sure about the clicking problem but if you have a stock oil gauge they are notoriously unreliable so not sure if you would really have an oil pressure problem or not...I have learnt not to get alarmed when mine is reading 20, 10 or even zero.
Edit...I have heard somewhere that Rex oil pumps are very robust and almost never known to fail...don\'t know how true it is mind.
Possibly the air con clicking on and off?
I wondered if it could be something to do with the fans or air con but am unsure. Hmmm.
Any other ideas?
cheers
G
Would have thought it was easy enough to check if its the aircon by just turning the aircon off and seeing if it still does it. You should be able to rule that one out. My aircon does affect engine revs a bit but not in the way you describe so personally dubious about it.
