Title: Sequential Shifter
Post by: Davegtt on November 05, 2003, 10:08:47 AM
Does anyone have one of these fitted? seems pretty cheap, I\'ve always wanted a sequential shifter, seems to good to be true?

Is it a straight forward mechanical process that converts the forward / back motion into H pattern movements?

Ant is the boy for this. He ran one in his FD, and has sold a few more.

Ant used to have one in his FD. Getting it in reverse used to be problematic at times - especially at one meet at Boxhill I seem to recall :)

Have a look at a pic of one in an FD, they dont look particularly hansom - the shifter sits quite high. I think Ant was happy with the shifting though.

Enough to live with the ENDLESS \'Butt-plug\' jibes any way! :D

I think Ikeba have a website that has in car video of the thing installed and being used in an FD IIRC...

M\'kay,

Ant, any opinions on these?

How DO you get into reverse?

Should be noted that whilst the sequential will reduce the chance of hitting the wrong gear in over exitement it will suffer in a standard FD due to

1. Sh1te gear ratios
2. Helical box
3. 3 ton stock flywheel.

Convert to a decent close ratio straight cut or dog box, 10lb flywheel and proper clutch and sequential operation starts to become a joy and loopy fast.

I\'ve driven a caterham with a straight cut box that you could slam into 1st from 5th at 50MPH. Great fun on Dallas tollways :-)

forgot to say it comes with a shift light just like the pics..

This is how to reverse...

Pull the lock knob at the side of the body and push the gear in at the deepest place for reverse. This is carried out to avoid shifting mistakes at the time of downshifting. If you are a racing driver, this lock should be removed for quick recovery.

Comes with Japanese instructions.. but seems easy enough as its all illustrated.
