Well I\'ve just had the RAC bring me home as i depressed the clutch ready to start the car, it popped and went straight to the floor.
Immediately I checked the master cylinder and the pipe in the engine bay, couldnt get under the car as i had my suit on and its a gravel car park. Anyway I noticed the fluid pouring out from the underside of the car (slave cylinder area)...
Anyway got it home and jacked it up expecting to find a leak or a split pipe. However it appears that the slave cylinder has sheered both retaining bolts and is hainging out of the bellhousing!
Im guessing its leaky as the brake/clutch fluid was all over the place, but why on earth has it sheered the bolts?
Basically I\'m in the North West and need a slave cylinder THIS WEEKEND so I can get to work on monday... Any ideas where I can get one from relatively local?
Also any idea how or why it happened?
One more thing... Am I ok to remove the plate that the slave cylinder fits into? The slave cylinder bolts to what looks like a plate which itself bolts to the gearbox bellhousing. Can I remove this without p***ing gearbox oil all over my drive so i can extract the reamins of the bolts?
Something in the clutch mechanism is preventing the arm in the clinder from moving. So when you pressed the pedal all that force had to go somewhe

No oil will come out.
I fixed it on saturday, basically it looks to have had a new slave cylinder fairly recently (I\'ve only had it two months) and whoever fitted it only put one bolt in...
There was one sheared bolt, the other hole had no signs of having a bolt in there recently. Add to that the fact that when i removed the plate it attaches to and that only had two of the three bolts in it, pretty sure thats what the problem was.
Whoever fitted it couldnt be arsed fitting the two upper bolts (the ones that are a bit of a pain to get to) so the cylinder was held on with only one bolt, the plate it attaches to was held on with two of the three...
The reason for the fluid spillage was the piston had flown out of the cylinder.
Anyway i cleaned it all up, rebuilt it and refitted it with nice new shiny bolts. Bled the clutch and brakes and its as good as new!
Thanks for the suggestions though.
Matt
Ah, well done. glad its sorted ! :-)
Yeah me too, it was typical though i got out of work early, sun was shining, went to start the car and... well you get the idea, i wasn\'t best pleased.
Got to say though there\'s a certain satisfaction in getting the car to work again and those few hours on saturday in blistering heat under the car dont seem that bad once you turn the key...
Its all good fun at the end of the day :)
