Title: Porting, polishing and general tuning
Post by: antrosser on July 12, 2006, 06:23:06 PM
Hi guys, just wondering (Probably a silly question), but what parts would you port and polish on the rotary engines?

Also, i am thinking of getting a single turbo conversion, but apparently from other threads there will be work that needs doing to it (Think it may be a US import). How hard it this? is it possible?

I have also got NOS to go in it too, dont worry, i am upgrading the seals to 3mm, but is there anything else that i would need to consider? thanks everyone in advance

Porting and polishing relates to the inlet and exhaust ports in the housings.
Be very careful of importing turbos from USA as they are for left hand cars and our steering rack will be in the way. Not sure what you mean by is it possible?
If your looking at these mods and without sounding rude, as NOS is still not well thought of on rotaries, if you dont tune correctly with your single conversion or NOS you might want to consider these tips.

ah i see, does that mean that if i purchased these:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MAZDA-RX-7-RX7-FD3S-STAINLESS-STEEL-EXHAUST-MANIFOLD_W0QQitemZ220006816893QQihZ012QQcategoryZ38786QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

it would already be done for me and no further porting and polishing could be done?

what i meant by possible was is there some way to convert or make them fit? cheers

No its the actual housings on the engine that are ported not the manifold itself

Its not the ehaust but the hosings, the parts of the engine where the rotors are housed, these can be ported.
The exhaust manifold has not a lot to do with that.
How ever if buying an manifold from abroad, ask if its for a right or left hand drive car, and for what turbo are they made for.

for an explanation of porting see: http://www.mazdarotary.net/porting.htm
and: http://home.iprimus.com.au/bluey3/portsPage/ports.htm

a large number of FD owners here have opted for the single turbo conversion, best to do a search here and you\'ll find a wealth of info about it.
