Ive been reading around and still unsure on what the crack is, I guess the average price of a rebuild is around £3000. What if you know (or at least 90% sure) you have a seal gone and youve found it early, to the point that the car starts and drives fine. I guess most of the parts in the engine are re-useable since its never overheated etc etc. how much does this effect the cost of the rebuild? does it become a much easier job and say cost £2000 or maybe even less? whats the cheapest someone has paid for a rebuild (not by a dodgy garage/mate or by doing it themselves.... actually scrap that, how much to rebuild it yourself aswell...lol)
I\'m speaking to Pip hopefully later today and will get an idea off him but its always better to hear from other customers as such rather than the seller.... :)
Thanks
My TII was just under £2k if memory serves with porting (but I opted for good 2nd hand housings) would have been about £400 more for new housings
Thats something then I suppose. Dreading a 3k bill lol
doing it myself
rebuild kit with all gaskets £800 by the time i got stung by customs
replacement housings end plates, 1 rotor and turbo manifold £1000
Oils, filters, spark plugs, coolant etc £150
Miscellanious hoses solenoids etc £100
finally got the last bit of cash together now for mine so going to be putting it back together as soon as i get my parts back from the polishers.
your probably looking at over £2000 if your engine is screwed like mine was even though mine was still running when i stripped it down there wasnt really much of any use left in it.
basically ive saved the grand on removal/refitting
yeah reckon the labours the biggest part of the bill.. my rebuilt last year by reworx was £3400, but my engine needed new everything... and the garage that removed the engine charged me £750! but there work was amazing, car was so differant to drive lol..
Dave my engine could still be goosed aswell:reallymad Me and steve are looking at doing it ourselves as his is due pretty soon. Taking the lump out is easy (with the gear) and if we buy the rebuild dvd it cant be that hard:p We could try doing yours frist you can be the guiney piggy:Giggle
Oooo can i help please lol.. im planning mine, just ordered the gasket and install kit from rotaryaviations.. WOOOoooo!! lol.. jus buying the parts a bit at a time so it dosnt look as bad on ma visa. :P
Theoretically, if you did it yourself, and all your side seals, corner seals, springs, apex seals, oil seals, housings and plates, etc, etc are fine, and it is ONLY your coolant seals that have gone, then the rebuild will be less than £1k - i.e. the price of the water seal kit.
But until the rebuild is initiated, you don\'t know what you will have to replace. And you never know what consumables may have broke. For example, until we removed the engine, we didn\'t realise that the engine mounts needed replacing. And you can\'t get them second hand, only new at £180!
So, it\'s just down to how lucky you are, and whether you\'re willing to do the rebuild yourself.
well im in the process of my rebuild at the moment i have taken out the engine and begun the stripping process of manifolds etc. im not ordering anything untill its in bits and i can clearly see what i need to replace i do however want a professional to check the plates, housings and rotors any one know people that do this?
Hello Mate,
I\'ve done a pic\'n\' mix rebuild kit !! :mmmm
New Rotor Housings from RX Motors
OEM Apex Seals from REWorxs
OEM Corner Seal springs from REWorks
Atkins Rotary Solid Corner Seals
Oil control ring springs from Mazdatrix
Apex Seal springs from Mazdatrix
O\' Ring kit from Rotary Avaition
Thermo pellet from Mazdatrix
Misc gaskets from local Mazda dealer
And to top it off a decent engine from Ebay to play with :cool
As you can see I\'ve shopped around a bit selecting what parts i want
I\'ve got lucky with customs once or twice aswell :InLove
Paul
I\'m doing mine as well. Nothing wrong with the engine other than compression lower than it should be so at 65k I\'m rebuilding before it does go :)
sounds good paul 3944 how much has it stood you in so far?
Quote from: Mr_7sounds good paul 3944 how much has it stood you in so far?
About £900 for the parts (Rotor Housings new £500)
And £250 for the engine which will be rebuilt hopefully :Laugh

Mine is with Pip as we speak with the same prob. Like everyone says though, you just dont know whats what until its in bits. I should know the damage in a week or two, so i\'ll let you know then
Well, spoke to pip. told him all the details and he was suggesting it could be a few other bits and bobs until I said last time I started it,it was on one rotor and white smoke. Then the suggestions stopped and he politely said no its defo a seal mate sorry :(
So its defo a rebuild and he said he wouldnt quote for it until its apart like you lot have said (at which time its too late, can hardly say no forget it put it back together...lol)
Sooo, now I have to decide if its worth me saving £1000 doing it myself or is the £1000 worth spending just for a reciept and warrenty (the power of being able to sell it on afterward  ) Not exactly what I want but Ive been stung now so we\'ll see.
G@ndy. You gonna collect the car then and do it yourself? What gear would I need? need to invest in new tools anyway but theres not much I dont already have (just the quality of it thats the issue) Engine Crane is definately something Im missing though, would have to set up a work bench in my garage too but thats easy enough. Fancy doing them both then? dont mind if we did yours or mine first (although you have been carless more than me this year so up to you) I dont mind being a guinea pig if you think we wont fook it up :Giggle
other than pretty basic tools you will need a 54mm socket, although i have heard of people borrowing them off guys who work on transits if you know anyone.
apart from that you just need all your parts checked and some accurate measuring equipement feeler guages and calipers.
The trouble is with the engine out you decide to do all those other little jobs
whos the best people to check your parts? i have a engineers near me or am i best sending the to a vendor?
Quote from: paul3944About £900 for the parts (Rotor Housings new £500)
Paul
New rotor housings are cheaper than £500 - RX motors web site quotes £350 each.
Carl said they go about £400 but this wasnt a exact price so yes you should get the mfor less than £500.
Carl at hayward rotary checked my parts over me a bout a month ago, although he had worked on the car once previously when it was on its last legs
All the Mazda prices and parts can be seen here

I\'d be carefull with this Dave. There is a thread knocking about at the moment which seems to go down the lines that if the engine is modified there will be no warranty even if it is the workshop in question who modified it!!! Not saying this will necessarly apply for WGT but.....
get any assurances of a warranty and what it covers in writing first!
Cheers for that mullins, Ive been following the thread with interest actually and its seriously making me think twice about spending serious cash now. All being well Im taking the engine out of the car tomorrow with G@ndy (thanks very much buddy) so thats an initial saving straight away :) next problem is wondering do I have a go at stripping the engine myself and go from there and call in favours from a few other guys I know and see what happens, failing that I could just give the engine to someone and get it rebuilt :)
Least things are moving now.:Thumbsup!
How many miles on this engine?
Bob
Un sure, I understood that Pip rebuilt it in Christmas 2003 so 2 and a half years ago by my reckoning, so I wouldnt have said that many miles were on it as Pip used to own it and Sean (who bought it off him) didn own it for too long, about 6 months but he did take it too Nuremberg Ring etc... So I wouldnt say its done anywhere near 60k. Id be suprised if its covered 25-30k.
as you say, not a lot of miles on it, hopefully a lot if not most will be
re-usable
