I\'ve got a friend who just reciently turboed his Mark2 MX5. He is looking to strengthen hs gearbox and was wondering if a RX7 gearbox would fit?
Or if someone knew the dimentions of a RX7 gearbox plus the sizes of the input and output sharts he will measure it up to his car.
If anybody out there has 1 for sale or could point us in the right direction that too would be much appreciated:)
Thanks all :wave
From what I have heard it won\'t fit without fairly serious modifications.
Try a search on //www.ausrotary.com under "Rotary MX-5" or similar.
I ran a turbo\'d mk2 and used the standard 6 speed box without hassle for 30000 miles, running around 200bhp.

Not an expert on the old boxes, but from my knowlage the 2nd- Gen N/A Box will fitt with modyfied bell-housing. Also the old S3 box will fit with the same modifications as the N/A box.
BUT, this boxes are not very strong and are known for main bearing failure. The most advanced box is the S4/S5 Turbo box, but this one has different shaft- pattern (clutch issue) and will not fit MX5 without heavy modifications as the bellhousing is different in design.
Your friend should look at newer MX-5 boxes as them are known to be strong enogh for turbo applications and are straight bolt on from my little knowlage...

Thanks for the replies guys. Have forwarded the info on to him and he\'s looking to other avenues.
Pretty sure he will have to shift from a standard MX5 box as his turbo kit will be running in the region of 300Bhp as his standard setting and up to 400Bhp at max boost, or something along those figures...
Sadly right now thou everything is more or less in place it only produces stock HP as he cant arrange a dyno day till Aug:p
Just moving this to the technical section. :wave
