Title: Engine knock on a 92
Post by: spinup on July 09, 2006, 07:48:22 PM
All right their all. Found my first rx7 its 1992 mint body work but started it and the enging had a pritty bad knock or more like a bang bang bang... noise from the near side of the engine bay on tick over.

Soon as I heard it, it was turned off. Rebuild sprung to mind.

wouldn\'t mind some idea of the price of rotors, tips, rotor case, centre shaft, seals, bearings etc... for a DIY build.

will I need to use all new parts on the rebuild, or is it a case of don\'t fix it if it aint broken on the parts that are ok. Bearing in mind the knock?

Any feedback or pointers on this little issue would be of help.

Cheers,

Rob

Would get it checked first, bang bang does not sound like engine knock, and usually knock happens at revs uder boost rather than at idle with more of a ping than a bang. It might be running very rich which could explain the banging.
Idea of prices

cheers Gary. looking at the prices think I will take a chance, chap only wants small doller for the car.
Rebuild kit and hope the rotor housing and rotors are ok on inspection, what should I look for and is that all I will need?
What could be the cause of it beeing so rich?
That DIY DVDs look vary interesting the promo demo won\'t download though?
