Title: 88 13b question
Post by: infinitezero on November 03, 2003, 07:14:27 PM
Hey,
Ill be getting my 88 rx-7 (with 13b motor) either tomorrow or tonight.  I\'m getting a steal on it (300 bucks...great body condition, just a minor engine problem).  The car feels as though it has no power after 3000 or 3500 rpm.  I have read places that it has to do with the vacuums and whatnot, but am not totally sure.  I wish i knew the names of the stuff I am trying to talk about, but then again i am a n00b to the rx-7 and the rx7 motors.  I will try to elaborate slightly better here:

on the left hand side of the motor, where the air intake to the engine, there are the like 6 or whatever inputs.....(i think), now if i am correct, at low RPM, all of the inputs are not open, but when at higher RPM the others open up allowing a higher a\\f ratio and greater rpm\\speed..etc.  Now there are little "lifters" (thats what i shall call them right now) to open up the inputs to allow greater air and whatnot.  I have read that if the vehicle sits for a period of time, those become stuck closed and cause my problem stated above.  Does anyoe have any suggestions, or possibly a fix\\solution\\ better terminology for me.

sorry about the crappiness of how i worded things, but thanks for any input.

Andrew

isnt that the 5th and 6th ports you are talking about - if it is - then yes they can get stuck

not sure what the solution is , but if you look on http://www.rx7club.com there is a solution on there

hope this helps - or is a pointer atleast

thanks
