Title: BOOOST Prob ....
Post by: Robcoulson on July 07, 2006, 02:23:32 PM
can anyone help with this one please, its frustrating.  my second turbo doesnt seam to want to work all the time like it should. The car is standard apart from a buddy club exhaust system. It drives fine normally, the first turbo works fine every time but sometimes when you get to about 4500rpm nothing happens and it feels really flat. The problem seams to have worsened over the past few weeks.  Could it be air filter or boost sensor ?

Sounds like a pipe is collapsing. Has the rats nest been re-done? If it hasnt, it might be worth getting it done.

Hi Rob,

Do you have a boost gauge to look at because if you don\'t achieve at least 8 pounds of boost it won\'t change over to the second turbo and by fitting a gauge you will know what boost you have.

Have a look at the triangular box between the plenum ( this is the bunch o bananas that goes over the top of the engine) and the strut brace right in the middle of the engine as there are a couple of small pipes on this box that affects the change over to the second turbo.

When you have a boost gauge to look at, if your not achieving much boost on the first turbo look for splits or leaks in the main intercooler piping onto the intercooler or around the short pipe that is on the manifold on the drivers side.

Hope this helps

ok, stripped all the pipes off (intercooler pipes and filter box) doesnt seam to be anything wrong there. Under the plenum (rats nest, bunch of bananas thingy) theres a load of small pipes there with all like vac hoses or sumet. 4 of these are not connected to anything, is that normal ????

a lot of pipes arent connected to anything under there...it can be quite confusing!

If you want to check for pipes collapsing, i found this to be a very good link for boost trouble shooting and im following it step by step at the mo...
