Title: Mapping ECU
Post by: Topaz on July 06, 2006, 05:55:29 PM
Hey guys

Was just wondering if anyone had any ideas on where I can get my new Apexi ECU mapped?  I was interested to hear some feedback on some places where anyone else has had them done?  I also see a lot of places that offer mapping on the road and I was wondering if anyone could tell me the advantages/disadvantages of this over a rolling road map?

Also is there any info that you think I should know before I go?

Any help anyone can give me would be appreciated!

Cheers

Matt

Hi topaz. Carl Hayward (see vendors, above) mapped mine, and although im fairly new to performance cars such as these, i think he did a top job of it. He certainly knows his stuff. from what i can gather, the main advantage to mapping out on the road isthat its getting mapped in a realtime situation, with lots of nice cool air flowing etc. biggest dissadvantage is other road users that might be on the road while your pulling from 2000 to 7500rpm ish, oh and not forgetting speed cameras and the dibble. dont think they\'d be too happy catching you at 140mph!

Hope this helps, and if anyone else cad add to or correct anything ive said, feel free

Andy

Hiya Topaz,

I will second Carl, At the moment he is building me a race engine and I am positive he will be give you an excellent map either on the road or on a dyno, and probably the closest to you!  I use him for everything, and I live in Bristol/Gloucester

That may be, but dont expect an invoice for your hard earned cash. that just seems to much trouble:(

Is it really worth it. People get upset, threads get closed, posts get deleted. I think i will leave it like that:Hammer but i think you can take from my reply that i paid a fair bit of money for parts and labour and never got an invoice:Nono!

the main options are basically Carl Hayward (Hayward rotary), Dragon, RE Worx or WGT up north. I don\'t think Tim at RX Motors does much with the Apex\'i but might be worth calling him as he is in Blandford Forum.

Please don\'t lets this turn into another dirty thread guys.

Matt,

You\'ll find many people on this forum who have all had fantastic service and maps from all of the vendors suggested, and some people who haven\'t.  I\'ve only had my car mapped by Max @ Re:Worx and the old girl\'s still going so I\'m very pleased.  I can\'t comment on how Carl/Ross/Pip map their cars, but only know that the Re:Worx guys do their\'s on a dyno rather than a road.  I\'ve heard speculation that mapping on the road is beneficial, although I\'m not aware of any evidence to back this up other than speculation.

Again, my personal preference has always been Re:Worx, they\'ve always done a good job on the car - that\'s it.

I appreciate that it doesn\'t help you decide much but that\'s about it.  Pip/Ross are probably closest to you, but that\'s about all I can say.

So far I\'ve had mine mapped by WGT (way back) and more recently by re:worx.  Both quality maps.

Testament to the re:worx map was it\'s resilience to very (very very very) high intake temps under load. (i.e. 5th gear, 1.1 bar boost, 90C+ intake temps and no nasty side effects!!!).

I will third Carl ! Made a great job mapping mine orignally and subsequently following further mods. Car made good numbers for mods at the Thor rolling road day.
