Title: AST cap
Post by: davegttph1 on July 05, 2006, 02:38:20 PM
OK in a bid to find my water leak I got the car running took it for a blast until I could see water dripping, I have got water dripping fromt he top of the AST via the cap so I thought I\'d buy a new one and see if thats the cause.... So I got this from RotaryTarts

It has arrived this morning (top service btw guys, very impressed) but its half the size of my current AST cap?!?!?!? I have an aftermarket one fitted by the previous owner, now not once have I seen a post by anybody stating that caps are different if you have an aftermarket alloy one. So anybody have any ideas? Have I just ordered a cap for the std AST and the other ASTs are bigger? why are they bigger? would have expected them to have been the same size as standard....

Thanks

Hope Rotarytarts offer refunds as its still in its packaging etc... It seems useless to me to even consider opening it up.

Its a mazda part and should fit after market ast\'s, not had any problems so far.
What size neck is the filler?

I have always refunded, correctly supplied or not, several times guys have bought an item, then sold there car and Ive had the item back. So never a problem. Ship her back.

Dave my lad. I tried 2 aftermarket ast\'s when i had my engine rebuilt, and both leaked from the cap. ended up getting a new stock item fitted and worked perfectly, only wanted a metal one for the bling:cool Carl Hayward said that he wouldnt sell them anymore as the caps just wouldnt seal. My advice is to bin that metal one and go old skool cool and use what mazda intended. Many people say that they have seen them split but i havent seen anything of the this nature and i know of several aftermarket ones that just leak.:bandit not worth the money:WaveBye

Yup mine does look like that... here it is

Internal diameter of 4cm external 6cm....

My car used to belong to Pip actually so I probably am better off ringing him for a replacement then. I just presumed all the aftermarket jobbies were a basic direct replacement and be the same size etc.... obviously I was wrong...

Gary, I will return the cap to you then if you do not mind,I\'ll send a covering letter too, should be in tomorrows post for you, much appriciated.

Hmmm, got my next problem to cover now, I\'ll go dig my old thread out....
