There is two realy comon faults with Second gens, the first is the dash switches like the head lights and Wipers play up, for example the relays get stuck in the wiper switches which usaly means it won\'t park but the other comon one is the switch overheats and causes the plug on the back to melt this often causes wiered and wacky problems....

Yeah, you are going to need to replace the relays in the wiper switch assembly, off the top of my head I cant recall the part numbers, but I know they are OMROM and I think I paid about £0.75p each for them trade.  Once you have the switch out and disassembled you should be able to get a part number off of the relay.   In the mean time the only way to make the wipers stop is to pull the fuse in the drivers footwell.

My wiper switch completely went tits up about 2yrs ago a replacement from Mazda cost about £170   and it was MOT time

Then i stumbled across this guy typically after shelling out, who rebuilds all the switches.

Pretty cheap and it\'s done properly

Might not be the switch, mine stuck on ; having took out all the dash and all the swiches they were okay. but wipers kept wiping - it was a fault in the wiper motor itself, having no funds at the time I carefully cut rouge wire so now they are on or off. no fancy stuff like parking or high speed but its good enough for MOT.
