Title: Clutch Hose Removal .. HOW ??
Post by: grinder on July 03, 2006, 08:28:30 PM
got the car in bits trying to rebuild the master cylinder ( pics and write up to follow :D )

got the master cylinder out ( sheesh thats not easy when your upside down in the drivers seat )

now im changing the flexi hose to a braided one ( hey it was cheap !! )

so got the TMIC off and all the pipe work - can see the hose nice and clear

HOW THE HELL DO YOU GET THE PIPE OFF THE SLAVE CYLINDER ????

it really doesnt want to move and there is no clearance in there AT all

any ideas ?????????????

the bleed nipple is in the way aswell

i can get the spanner on it - but have no leaverage to shift it

someone please tell me the easy way to do this ( pretty please :D :D :D )

Stu
( didnt realise you can get a person of 6\'1 in the drivers seat up side down !! LOL )

cheers ant :D

you got any idea what size it is ???

the 11/16 spanner fits - but not 100% sure on it

i checked with a 17mm spanner and thats looks the same as the 11/16 ( the 11/16 is a flared nut wrench thingy - so is right for the job - just the size im wary about )

i only tried for about 3 mins to be honest - its certainly a squeeze - the throttle lines are in the way and the heater matrix pipe ( or thats what i think it is )

shaun : id given up by the time i posted - i should be doing it again tomorrow - got the bloke from accross the road lending a hand - so i should be ok

id rather use my "get shaun down here to help" card when i do the DTSS - i dont want to take the pss and get you down here every 10 mins

i reckon its only about a 10 mins job to do that , prob 20 mins to rebuild the cylinder - rebuild - bleed and run

just so im ready for the meet on monday

feel free to come down for a nosey matey - you know you are always welcome

yeh its a right royal pain that slave cylinder.

im trying to remember what i did.. im not sure if i took the slave cylinder off the gearbox mate or managed to undo the pipe but i remember struggling with it!! Go with trying to take slave cylnder off Stu.. its not attached by much there. If you get the slave off you can then hold it gently in a vice so you can get that bloody pipe off!

theres a self bleeding kit you can buy which makes that clutch bleeding process much easier. the bleed nipple takes an 8mm.

LOL i got stuck a few times in that bloody foot well! job is 10x easier with the seats out

I would agree with the above.  Also it when it is off you can make sure the bleed nipple is free.  It will be only held on by 2 bolts and then just pulls off, it is not connected to the actual clutch lever the push rod just pushes up to it..

Oh just another point stu, when you take the master cylinder apart clean everything up with clean brake fluid, do not use any other flluids like wd40 etc.. and check for pitting and corrosion in the master cylinder bore...

well done stu. keep your fingers crossed.  was the cylinder internals in good condition? .

I was hopeing to get across next week but I think it clashes with something else....

the insides was really smooth - no nicks or scores in it - so happy with that

when we compared the plungers - the old one looked really shot at

i dont think it helped that the clutch fluid looked like it hadnt been changed in 16 yrs

put it this way - when we took the circlip off to rebuild it - all the internals fell out the master cylinder - but took us about 5-6 goes to get the new ones back it - i think thats a good enough sign that it was shot at !!
