I dont seem to beable to get a good pull away in my rx7, if i get a reasonable pull away i always get a smell of the clutch. LOads of different cars have tried racing me off the lights and i tihnk all of them have beaten me in the initial pull away and then i just fly past them. I think i could get a better pull away in my berlingo van!!! lol
I dunno if its just me being a **** driver lol or if other people have had the same thing?? or maybe if my clutch is getting a bit worn. Any ideas???
How can i improve??? lol
firstly what revs are you launching at from the lights? You need to be between 3000 and 4000 at least if you want a good launch, but you also need to be careful and not let go of the clutch too quick or you will wheelspin like crazy or get wheelhop... if your clutch is on its way out then this will affect your perfomance a lot... One of my friend launches his 200sx at 4500 rpm on a slipping clutch and although he gets an amazing start his clutch starts slipping as soon as he gets into second gear and then the car just doesnt want to move.... I reckon if your eventually flying past them I wouldnt worry too much as you get the win in the end, which is what counts :burnout
What setup are you running...Single, sequential or non sequential twin? I have just changed my car to non sequential twin and it doesn\'t take off as smartly as it did when it was sequential because its getting no turbo assistance at all below 3000 rpm. However, after 3-4K theres plenty of boost...Sounds a bit like what you\'re describing.
im just running the standard sequential set up. I think i just need some practice, trouble is everytime i do get a good get away theres a strong smell from the clutch and even sometimes a bit of smoke. Im prob only running an extra 20-30 bph off standard. The car has done 65,000 miles without a rebuild and i dont know the status of the clutch, wether it is original clutch or if its been changed and when etc.
Maybe you do have a problem with the clutch; If the car is running right with a standard setup you should get a pretty quick take off. I would say though that it is a very fine line between bogging the engine down and getting too much wheel spin. It isn\'t easy to get it right reliably. You need slightly raised engine revs just before take off (1.5-2K) and then don\'t let the clutch out too quickly but allow the clutch to slip fractionally as you accelerate away and as soon as you are over about 2.5- 3K revs you are getting boost and you\'re off no problem. I am trying to describe how to get away quickly without being over aggressive with the clutch and tyres as you might on a drag strip - that\'s another matter.
cheers mate, and i hopefully in the future am gona have a go at drag racing, either sheakespeare county or the pod. Im jsut gona give it a bit of practice and see if i can improve my take offs a bit.
cheers
I blame the driver :flamed
6500k, and dump the clutch.
You may get beaten, but you\'ll be considered a god...
