mainly knock exceeding 50 (i think) or that the exhaust temps are high

my Heat light is on all the time from when i start the car, the Power FC commander also shows a sensor down.

i have noticed it flash when giving it some serious beans

max EGT;s i have seen are about 650-700 though nothing to worry about i thought.

i thought this would be due to the egt gauge sensor being fitted in the standard ones place if thats correct ?

i have my MOT tomorrow so im jsut going over all things wrong with the car

You need to check out what sensors/switches have failed using your commander. Don\'t keep blindly using yuor car until you have done this, otherwise you may do serious damage!

I can\'t stress this enough - the heat warning light when used with the PFC indicates an error that the ECU has detected, and if the commander is showing a sensor or switche failure, you could be in trouble.

For example, mine showed the metering oil pump positioning sensor on mine. I ignored it after a while, and when we pulled the engine apart, you could see what damage was done: wear marks to both rotor housings, and therefore beyond use. Has to fork out for brand new ones at about £300 EACH! Not cheap.

CHECK OUT THE SENSOR BEFORE REAL DAMAGE OCCURS!!

ok when i bought the car Trev (  a user on here) told me it was that he had not connected a sensor in the fuel rail.

I have an afterwarket fuel rail fitted.

Could this be it ? I wasnt really listeneing when he said i just wanted to drive the car lol. I was also not aware the Power FC used this as a warning light.

If so what does this fuel rail sensor do ?

OK, what errors are being displayed on the commander? Might be able to tell you what sensor it is then.

Yeah, so, ok, least it\'s just one!!

Get the three letters or whatever it is, and post that up. Someone should be able to tell you what that sensor is, and what the repurcussions of it not working are.

Mine is on all the time and ever since i had the car mapped last year and before.  was told its nothing to worry about as i have decat pipe straight through and there is no sensor to plug in hence the light stays on....

Sounds like a bodged job to me; I did exactly the same, thing - fitted a decat pipe, but i couldn\'t disconnect the sensor* because the screws were rusty, so i snapped it off. Of course, then the exhaust temp light came on, so i brought a new sensor from Jimmys and fitted that, pulled it through the car and left it connected inside resting on the floor of the car.

Job done, no warning light. :cheers

Cheers, Paul.

* the sensor is the CAT temperature sensor which is plugged into the CAT under the car.

It\'s always a good idea to ask questions! Why is it nothing to worry about? What does the light mean? Can it be put out if it\'s due to the cat being removed (If the light can be put out, then you\'ll be able to see it light up when/if something else goes out)

Don\'t take someones word for it until they\'ve explained why.

Good point - i got WGT to do my decat, and i got no light either. Can\'t recal whether they pushed the sensor through or not now.

NP.

In order to fit the new sensor you have to:

*) take the driver\'s seat out,
*) unplug the lead attached to the underside of the seat(!)
*) unscrew the boot/petrol opening lever from the right floor side,
*) pull the carpet back enough so you can see the senor (pull the carpet from the rear end of the car, its easiest)
*) unplug the sensor,
*) pull the old one through the hole in the floor,
*) plug the new one in,
*) put it back together again!

:Thumbs-up

Took me about 1.5 hours.

Cheers, Paul.

but when you plug the new one in does it have to go into the pipe or stay outside? as i have no holes in the decat pipe to plug it in??

Ah, yes - what i did was to leave the new sensor on the floor of the car under the carpet. I also used the rubber bung from the old sensor to seal up the hole in the floor.

Cheers, Paul.

Wierd! Was there a funny looking hole in the CAT with nothing attached to it?

Would have been a small hole - 4mm maybe, with two screw holes either side of it...

Cheers, Paul.

It is more than likely the fuel temp sensor light if you have aftermarket fuel rails fitted. :Thumbsup!

I have read about this and the easiest answer is to buy a resistor from maplins and wire it in. I think grinder or someone on here told me that.
