got my car done at last, the motor has been stroked to 6.3 litre, cnc flowed heads, big cam,new exhaust. it was at dave walkers dyno today 528 bhp-530ft lb, (440ft lb at 2400rpm), cant beat cubes !!!
So you should be running 9\'s with that power then! :)
superb, any pics?
dont know about running 9s but would like to try it with some proper tyres to see what it would do !!, what will the std diffs take ?

A little less power and torque than you have ;) Try it out i guess and change it when it breaks!
at last we have something the yanks have been doing for ages..cant wait to see the end results..pics please but think u may have too much ooommmpph for standard diffs..check hinsons site as they had standard diffs up to a certain point.i think u might get away with it on street but 1/4mile the torque will be too much and they will pop..if i only had the cash this would be my chosen route rx7 looks and v8 sound
can u email ur phone no as i have lost it p.brian@fsmail.net

Wow! :3gears-rh
Will be awesome in a streight line... ;)
i dont think the V8 is that much heavier, if positioned well, the handling should still be fairly good.... no???

Should be possible to keep handling decent, I was just joking really. Weigh will move up and forward a bit but maybe only enough to be noticed under extreme circumstances.
The LS engines should be better than the SBC engines for this conversion. A later LS (6 or 7) would really rock. Lots fo tuning parts available for them and a lot of support in the US so problems should be easy to overcome.
this car still run std front springs and does not sit to low, have not had it weighed yet need some accurate scales, but it handles real good as good as any other fd i have driven.the ls6 motor is very similar to a ls1 it has a bit more cam, better flowing heads and an extra breather in the block so not that special, the ls2 is a 6 litre with the ls6 mods so thats the best value, the ls7 is seven litre with titanium parts very pricey!! and they only make 500bhp but good torque (with good potential). the root i took was new ls1 block stroke to 6.3 litre, steel rods, forged pistons,re cast heads with new port shape(all cnc\'d),big cam, this should give reliable motor(these motors do 100,000miles no probs) with the best compromise between power and torque. if you are not careful you end up with so much torque but it wont rev (the tallest diff you can get is 3.9). this motor should be safe to 6750 (7000 if needed) so the gearing is spot on with 6th giving 80 mph @ 2000 rpm this gives very good mpg (which is nice).i will try and put up some pics when i can find uot how ? (i will email them to one of you on this link if you can do it as im on holiday now for a week) cheers craig tinker-27taylor@blueyonder.co.uk

I don\'t think there is alot in the weight its just where the weigh is put, a V8 will have all its weight higher in the car.
these conversions are quite common in us and the weight and balance is not affected
For any one that’s interested a couple of sites to look at LS1 motors in FD`s & FC`s @.

A whole site dedicated to the LS1 motor @.

Hours of reading.
528bhp :god
Slap a couple of turbos on the those LS1 V8s and watch them leave Earths Orbit :eek
hinsons do a turbo conversion for the ls1 as well..but overkill a sorted ls1 is more than adequate
ohhhh but we luv overkill here :D
1000BHP anyone???
i never realised a v8 conversion was so good. I thiought a piston engine of this size would weigh double that of a rotary
well done craig... email me some pics... the porsche 924 was dynod the other month aswell... 683bhp and 601 torque at 5,800 rpm with 14 psi through the procharger 5.8 liter...

 i just cannot see how a small (stroked to big) block v8 weighs roughly the same as a rotary 1.3 ??????
The 13b block is not that heavy but its all the ancillaries that more than double the weight. The turbo pack alone weighs a lot, then you have the air pump, aircon, intercooler etc. I\'m sure tinker knows the accurate answer though.

Common misconception. A lot of people think if you put a V8 in say an RX-7 shell it will handle like sh!t too, which is totally wrong!

Doesn\'t the 13b weigh, like 100kgs though? Can\'t see a V8 weighing that, even all alloy 4 cylinder engines are 120kg+
Ta, Paul.
Love to see some pics chap :Thumbs-up
