I have a 1st gen 1985 that will not start.
I have changes the plugs, distributer cap, spark plug leads. There is a spark, there is fuel getting through but it will not fire.
I have not tried bump starting it because if it wont start my car will be at the bottom of a hill with no way of getting back up.
The battery has gone down a bit but still wont fire when i get a jump.
I think it must be somthing simple but i have run out of ideas - can anyone offer a suggestion apart from a match and some petrol:reallymad
OOPS... Sorry to hear that!
I\'d guess that it\'s flooded now, and the easiest way to get it going is a tow (pushing it might not work). The only time I\'ve flooded a 1st gen is when the battery has gone flat whilst trying to start it though.
Can you hear compression as it turns over, or is it a steady spin?
With my previous 1st gen, which really didn\'t start well, an unlit propane torch down the carb seemed to encourage it to run sometimes... And heating up the plugs helps.

Eze start is always a great diagnostic tool. If a squirt of that won\'t start it nothing will.
If its flooded then pull the plugs, spin it over a few times and leave it for a couple of hours. Clean plugs (warming them with a propane torch helps). Try again.
I have started some really bugged up engines that way.
