Law on imports

...Nice :D
some copper told me it needs to be visable from 20 meters away.
Is there an extract anywhere about sticky plates or are they totally illegal? Even though 360 Modena\'s come standard with a sticky front plate...
I went around for about a year with my plate in the windscreen, got stopped in the end and got a fine! EVEN though no-one could show me where it says in the law about not placing a numberplate in the windscreen. Says they have to be front and rear facing, visable and free from anything obscuring them. Still I got a £90 fine because I didn\'t want to take a day off work to fight the thing in court!
Its meant to only be a £30 fine!!!!!!
can be up to £1000! problem was I didn\'t get it re-checked in a MOT centre to prove I have done it so I was then sent a NIP and got the thing through from court, fine + costs! grrr
Should i have signed the little pink slip he gave me as proof i recieved the warning or not? He did say it was optional but i didnt want to "Get arsey" if you catch my drift...
If you need a plate then go to Malplates on the web
my stick on was only £5 inc to the door! No messing with forms etc either ;)
Stick on plates are totaly legal, as long as they are the correct size text!!!
The minimum hight you can have is 64mm and there has to be a 10mm white border around the text!
................... I can do you a stick on plate, at any size you would like!!
Also if you want a name at the bottom of the plate with a pinstripe border I can do that the same time!!
Jono
jono, you have pm
jono, how much £££ you reckon for the smallest possible but legal stick on vinyl front plate you could do me? 6 characters long I like the look on yours and i wanna copy you :2Rolleyes :2Rolleyes :2Rolleyes

The smallest you can have is 64mm text, which drops the hight of the plate from the standard 110mm to about 85mm and then the length will obviously be alot shorter aswell!!!
Price £12 deliverd to your door. also if you want your log in name or something in small print at the bottom of the plate then we can do that for you aswell!!!

Point 26, bottom of the page. Suggests the DVLA regard them as not legal. (Unless this is an old page an their views have subsequently changed?)
I heard that the rules were recently tightened again? If they arn\'t I\'ll have a sticky off of you as well but I\'m pretty sure that now the rules say they have to have the correct reflective background as well as the right sizes. Do your stickers have this? If they do then I\'ll have one off you?
Dave
Jono, any chance of posting up a pic of your plate on the rx. Is it a vinyl plate or a hard back plate?
I believe there are reflective adhesive number plates which do adhere to the DVLA guidelines, I have read about them being available....
stickers on fduk sees it this way, if you go to bmw and want optional metalic paint. you pay for it. he wants no front number plate, eventually he\'ll pay for it through a fine(maybe)
I\'ve swapped to a sticky numberplate but haven\'t really been stopped for dodgy numberplates. I think if its clear they leave you alone !
Shaun
i got a stick on thing after i got pulled

Thing is: Some Ferraris have sticky plates as standard & if a car that costs £100.000+ can get away with it........ Why cant we with an FD!!!!
Yea, the Sticky plates are on a full reflective background like a standard plate you would get from Halfrauds or any motor factors!!!
Size wise you can only get away with the 64mm text on imports, UK cars it is illegal for some strainge reason!!
As said earlyer, if it is clearly readable then the ecilops (police) won\'t bother you!!!
Mine is on a plastick backing but it\'s the same as the sticky ones!!!
£12 deliverd guys........ and if you want, I can put a thin border around with eather your user name, web address or what ever you want at the botttom in small text (how ever obsine, but as you can see, I don\'t need to do that with my reg!!!)
Here\'s a pic of mine:
Text 64mm on a fully reflective backing!
I think the only reason why they are illigal is because you could buy them as a kit in the past for trailers and caravans and you made your own number up. The nanny state, sorry government, want to know when you get a replacement.

Hia fella,
unfortuantely your not alowed to have any other fonts on your reg plates now, only the standard DVLA style. I could do one for you but the police would go:Nono! that will be £30 please sir for our exmas party:Party
If you wanted I could do you one with the text in graphite grey (they havent picked up on that one yet)!!
Unfortunatly people I can only accept cheques as our pay pall isn\'t working yet!!! So if you would like a plate, they are £12 each (please state if it\'s for the front or rear)
send the money to:
D\'Sign Studio
Unit 1 Agamemnon House
Milford Marina
Milford Haven
Pembrokeshire
SA73 3AY
along with a note of your reg and address (so you don\'t get the wrong item!!)
Cheers Guys
Jono
Jono did me a sticky which I\'m pretty happy with. I wanted a sticky so I didn\'t have a plate in front of the radiator. Its standard lettering size and reflective, so I figured it wasn\'t taking the mickey, just got through an MoT without comment :)
Did you manage to check for the magnetic one jono???
Quote from: RixioDid you manage to check for the magnetic one jono???
Hia mate,
Yea I have cheked for you.......... unfortunatly the magnetick isn\'t quite strong enough!! It does stick but any movement and the stuff falls off!!!
Jono
Fantastic! This is just what I was looking for, do I assume that the vinyl plates can be removed easily when needed? Having to get a new front end due to somebody smashing into me and I don\'t really want dodgy holes drilled into it so the smaller vinyl plate seems ideal. :)
Yep...sticky ones :)
I still aint got one though :p
There was a link posted on the first page of this thread to the DVLA website with the requirements of \'displaying your plates\' and also there was a section that said something about \'some import cars were allowed to use a smaller front plate\'.............
The link has now been replaced with another, looks like the DVLA re-vamped their site and it\'s either no longer there(hidden), or I can\'t find it.
I originally printed off the whole link with the requirements to keep in my car incase Mr plod comes aknocking... But seems I lost it:mad: ..
Has anyone done the same and printed it out or even saved it on their PC as I would like to get another copy please.

Yea the sticky plates are removable....... all you need to do is warm up the plate using a hair dryer to soften the glue, then slowley remove the plate. any glue that is left behind can be cleand off using a rag and some petrol!!

I see what you mean, I can\'t find it now either. There is a section "http://www.regtransfers.co.uk/main/faq/newstyle/change_plate_newfont.asp" which says
"However those motorists who have number plates that are not substantially the same as the new mandatory font should change them for plates that comply with new regulations. Once the new font becomes compulsory existing number plates using any typeface that is not substantially the same as that specified in the regulations will be illegal." which implies that if you had a sticky plate on prior to the new regs which has substantially the same font, then you should be OK (or at least that\'s how I\'d chose to interpret it...)
jono im ready to get one of these plates made up for the front. I\'ll send the cheque monday ok mate?
Yea that\'s fine fella, dont forget to put all your info in with the payment!!
