Title: BOV not sounding how it should but why?
Post by: richard cash on June 25, 2006, 03:26:50 PM
ok, heres a pic of the engine:

I was told that some people had a problem with their BOV not working on this side of the intercooler so i had the hole welded up and placed where the yellow ring is.

The BOV is still not doing what it should though, I tried putting the little vacuum hose from the BOV to the nipple in the green ring and the BOV just didnt open at all, just made the flutter noise very loud. So i connected it directly to the manifold nipple as i had a spare space. Now it will flutter under low boost (but not as much as when vac. hose was connected in the green ring) but under high boost the BOV vents the gas but not making the noise it should, Its more of a deep slow noise (like it has a silencer on it). Ive replaced it with a greedy type S one which should be very high pitched and its doing the same thing still. Ive looked all over the net for a solution and cant figure out why this is happening.

I think the BOV valve must run from a Manifold pressure point the engine side of the throttle body.

The idea is that the BOV will open whenever you have boost pressure, and have shut off the throttle plates (rapidly coming off gas), giving vacuum on this side.

With it running from the nipple you ringed in green, it will never open, because the same pressure is on both sides of the valve.

If you are running a boost controller, have a mechanical boost meter, or just using the stock MAP sensor, the take off point for that would be ideal.  That\'s where your feed should come from.

Cheers,

those things you listed come from the pressure manifold in the top left corner of the engine bay. And thats now where the pipe comes from too so that shouldnt be a problem now. I can reduce the tension on the spring to get the BOV to open, its just nothing like it should sound. Its way too flat and i cant hardly hear it at all

Just noticed that on your BOV you have two inlet/outlets.  Mine only has the 1, but it is on the top of the BOV.

Are you sure you have the vacuum line on the correct pipe outlet?

theres just the one inlet, there is a bolt at the top. Im very confused why two completly different sounding BOV\'s sound the same though when venting gas, and nothing like either should

heres a pic of the setup now, with the hose in the back of the BOV set to the manifold pressure
