Hi all,
I have a pretty standard car...just filters and exhaust as far as I\'m aware.
If I install the PFC and leave it on the default map will I be likely to pass the MOT or should I leave it off?
Reason I ask is I don\'t want the car mapping as it\'s coming off the road for a rebuild at the end of Sept and don\'t have the cash to fork out for another remap when everything is sorted.
Any thoughts most appreciated!
Cheers :)
If you\'re not sure, why don\'t you just stick the standard ECU in for the MoT?
That\'s what I was thinking, after all the car won\'t have changed it\'ll just have to relearn some stuff since technically it\'ll have been reset by removing the battery for so long i think.
No, the map won\'t have been reset - it won\'t have to re-learn anything.
So does the stock ECU learn then? Anything I should do after replacing the cat on mine?
cheers

QuoteSo does the stock ECU learn then?
No. Not at all. We\'re talking about the Apexi Power FC here.
I thought it did? Certainly the ECU in the Probe/MX6 does to a point. It doesn\'t alter fuel mappings or anything though.
Why do people tell you to reset the ECU by disconnecting the battery and pushing the brake down for 30 seconds or so? Or is that just to clear the codes?
Depends what you mean by learn in that case. What specifically are we talking about here? It\'s not going to \'learn\' that it\'s suddenly taking in more air, or running more boost. It\'s a standard, run-of-the-mill ECU. Nothing trick about it.
The resetting of the ECU is to clear codes, or limp mode settings that it may have.
OK fair enough :) I might see about swapping them this weekend and see what the PFC is like to start with.
When i put my PFC in with the base map, i acutally noticed with was a lot smoother to drive a low revs. Unusually it made a lot of difference. Very smooth. Other than that, it didn\'t do a lot. Oh, it also has the capability of showing up any faults in the switches and solenoids, so it\'s quite helpful there too.
Cool :) Thanks for all the help matey! Assuming it doesn\'t rain this weekend I have a job to do! I really need to change my oil as well.
It\'s a quick job to do. About 10 minutes - and all inside the car!
Oil change is quick too. Quicker and easier than it was on my calibra!!
I\'ve got all the instructions ready..just need to get an oil filter from Mazda and wait for my oil tap thing to turn up and I\'ll do my first change on the rex :)
Halfords sell the oil filter - Mazda ones are all the same size
