story so far
drove the car out the garage waited till temp was up turned it off, washed and polished, went out 3 hours later wouldnt start (flooded) :xconfused
went through the de-flood started but wouldnt rev really really rough and died,
left it a day same again, tryed again wouldnt start, put in the garage changed 2 plugs (all i had 9s) old ones were ok though, tryed oil in the holes still no go, had the plugs in and out at least 10 times over a couple of days, tryed towing still not start! given up now
after trying to start it ive noticed under the turbo pack area is a little petrol on the ground not sure where its comen from any ideas surely this isnt the reason why its no going :xconfused
i had been thinken it may have been the petrol at fault got half a tank optimax, the garage i started using keeps running out of it and they only had 1 pump when i last bought it, wonderd if it could be the fuel
car always starts of the button even when warm, started fine when i pulled it out to wash it, any ideas anyone Please
Well if it was me with fuel coming out of the Turbo side of the Engine i\'d be worried.
can you jack it up and see if there is a clean or wet patch anywhere on the engine or undertray?
The thing is there is quite a bit of Fuel system components on that side of the engine.
Sounds daft but it is possable it could be leaking from the Turbo, i re****ly rebuilt an FD that had droped a seal but before it was run while not firing properly on one rotor so it flooded, when i took it apart there was half a cup of fuel in the exhaust port, so if you have a slight exhaust gasket leak at the manifold it may leak fuel out, this should be ovious to look at, there will be Black water marks on the lower part of the Manifold and the Sump area.
Also while your trying stuff do this, Take the EGI fuel out, Remove the Rear top spark Plug then turn it over and listen to the noise it makes, It should be Even Pssssh Noises. then refit the plug and take the Ft top one out and turn it over, it should sound the same as the Rear.
This will tell you if you\'ve got a Compression probelm.
thanks I will try this tomorrow night, should it go just like that!! only drove it out the garage up the drive let it idle then switched it off?
Hi Gav, don\'t worry. Be happy!
The fuel leak is just unburnt fuel leaking past the wastegate shafts. Its natural when the fooking thing won\'t start. I suspect your engine has low compression but try this.
Get all 4 plugs clipped to starter leads going back to earth. Each one plugged into its lead.
Turn the engine over and watch the spark (a pair of mole grips on the ignition key and a length of string works if your on your todd!!)
MUST be a fat blue spark on each plug.
Great. Your ignition is on. Now do as Grizzly says and take the fuse out. Crank for 40seconds.
Put plugs back in and start car. It will start now if its ever going to. Go for a long drive. Give it some stick and some injector cleaner and optimax.
Drive it to your local mazda specialist and get a compression test.
If you have anything over 5.5-6.0 your good to go.
Good luck!
Jon
Forgot to say, the rough running probably fouled plugs. Gentle wire brushing and ten minutes on the flame on the hob in the kitchen WILL help (some folks say it won\'t).
If you have a scribe gently scraping the insulator around the center electrode can break off deposits (grey ones). Don\'t crack it!
you may have also not helped by putting oil in the plug holes, this will foul the plus on every rotation.
One more thing to add to the Warming plugs up bit, try to get them as warm as you can and so there is no flame coming off them when you stick the end of the plug in the gas hob, then refit the plug while its still very warm, this will dry out the plug holes and get a better earth. Also do it quick so the plugs are still hot when your turning it over so the fuel won\'t damp the plugs on the first rotation.
sounds like good news then im gona order 4 new plugs the now just to be safe then i will try it again, hope she goes, did try the heating the plugs before was like it wanted to go but didnt, feard the worst its been like this 2 weeks now,
thanks again guys
you could also take the plugs out for a day or so and at least you would have two dry rotor baths?
thanks for the help guys, a dont get on hear often now but its good to know everyones happy to help,
car started today as normal after fitting 4 new plugs i had left the old ones out for 2 days, needed a new battery 4 year warranty on the halfords calcium come in handy, had nacked a cell, was only fitted in march,
anyway am glad she goes again, ;)
