Title: Dodgy Fuel Gauge or Something Worse???
Post by: turbo_ste on June 19, 2006, 12:40:30 PM
Hi guys, hope you can help,

Set off to work this morning in my Gen3 RX7 and it cut out at a junction that was on a slight incline. Tried to start it again but it wouldnt fire, I then rolled it down onto a flat and it would start but as soon as i pumped the accellerator it would cut out as if it was out of fuel, then eventually it would not start at all.

It is basically showing all the signs that it has simply run out of fuel, yet the fuel gauge is showing a qurter of a tank??

I am hoping that is just a case of the gauge being stuck and there being no fuel left, but i know the gauge has gone below where it is now, the light has even come on before and it still ran to get me to the petrol station.

Hope all this makes sense and that someone can help me out, by the way I havent tried to put any fuel in it yet to see if it makes a difference as i have been at work all day.

Cheers Guys

Steve  :cool

well, Stick a gallon of fuel in it, get some one to turn the ing on whilst you listen for the fuel pump (you can usaly hear it if you stick your hear under the rear of the car sounds a bit like a buzzing noise)

UPDATE: Put some fuel in last night and its no different, first fire it started but cut out more or less striaght away, then it will turn over and almost fire but it really struggles, if you put the accelerator to the floor the car will tick over at about 100rpm very lumpily, but if you move your foot away even slightly it will die again.

Didnt get your post in time last night to listen for the fuel pump, will try that later, however when i stuck my head under the bonnet it did smell of fuel so i presume it is getting through, it is as if it is being starved of fuel though.

Managed to get it back home and its now on my drive, very confusing!!

Look forward to a response...

cheers guys
