Title: New Tyres Fitted
Post by: cannibal on June 16, 2006, 12:57:09 PM
I took the FD out last night whilst the football was on to try out my new tyres. I have just had Toyo R888 semi-slicks fitted. It was raining when I picked the car up so couldn\'t try them out then. Last night was dry and warm, also there was no traffic. The difference is nothing short of amazing. The car just feels so much more planted and inspires confidence. Don\'t know how long they\'ll last, but I don\'t really care when they feel this good. :Thumbs-up

How much did it work out for the set? Where did you get them?

I got Gareth at Newera to get them fitted when he discovered one of the original Japanese rears had just gone on the inside whilst checking it out for the MOT. As for the price, he did quote some rough figures around £160- £180 per corner. I\'ll let you know when I get the invoice. I must take a few snaps too as the tread, or lack of looks pretty impressive.

what size wheel is that for?  Thought about getting some for my standard alloys to use for track days

I\'ve got 17" alloys, 235 x 45 x 17 on the front and 255 x 40 x 17 on the back.

Semi slicks rock!

And the tyre choices are getting better and better all the time.

they sound great.  What size should I get for my standard alloys?  On the back.  Obviously I want as wide as possible (255?)

where is the best place to get these from?

Been using Dunlops for a while and selling them for a couple of years

Or if you dont mind small sizes, but very cheap.

You will never want to go back to normal tyres after

So Max, how did the Dunlops compare to Toyo\'s in the end. :)

I haven\'t used the Toyo\'s yet, Phil is going to give them another try at Time Attack tomorrow.

His initial feelings at Rockingham Round 1 were that they (Toyos) have good initial grip, but get squirly (technical term for what happens when you really push on hard and they start sliding when really hot) much earlier on than the D01\'s.

The D01J\'s seem to take a little longer to heat up, but the grip stays lap after lap rather than going off.

Tbh, I think I\'ll stick with what I know, so that\'ll be D01\'s for a few months, then DZ02G\'s when I wear them out.

Gary, that\'ll be pads AND tyres soon then ;)

Well I\'ve got these Toyo\'s now, I had to make a snap decision because of the MOT, but the Dunlops sound intersting for next time.

I am currently using the DO2\'s and in the dry they are excellent....however be warned they aren’t too good in the wet!!!  At the Ring they were a tad skittish!! with the back end permanently trying to overtake the front!!  Once it had dried they really bit in and we were starting to explore what the car could do!! :)

The DO1’s I used to use were much better in the wet, but to be fair I experimented with the pressures a little more, and the car I was running them on was lighter.

If anyone wants them just ask as I can get them cheap!!! Less than £600 delivered to your door! 235/40/17 and 245/40/17

I\'ve just picked up a set of D02s too, but 235,265 on 18"s.  What pressures were you running just out of curiosity?

Cheers

I didnt get much chance to play with the pressures, but I was sticking to around 32 hot all round.

What about yourself?

Have you tried them in the wet yet?????????????

we used to run our DO1J\'s at 32psi with best results and I believe Phil G also uses 32psi.

We had a press release from Dunlop (cant find now, to long ago) when the DZO2G\'s came out approx 2 years ago and they reported a 1.5 sec better time around Brands in the Dry and an improvement in the wet with them.

Should add this was at Spa 2 years ago, we had the car in 4 wheel drift on one corner, and with apexi anti-roll, HKS coilovers stiffened up, we could scrap the side skirts on the car going round track. The grip was awesome, day time temps were probably somewhere around early/mids 20\'s resonable sunny day day but not sweltering

The final prices were £372.01 for the rears and £356.03 for the fronts all in. A bit more expensive than elswhere, but not bad at short notice.

Hi,
I am new on here as I am thinking of getting an RX7 anyway I have been running TOYO 888 for over 18 months on a MR2 Turbo that is very tail happy.
They are fantastic, they will last as long as any good quality rubber, they grip extremely well in the dry and are not too bad in the wet if you use common sense. The only time I would criticise them is on a track day, the sidewalls are a little soft, but this is only noticed whilst giving them some real abuse on a track.  pluss the fact that they also look good.
