Hiya chaps
got hold of some DTSS elim bushes - and crickey - how big are they ( or more for this thread - how big should they be ?? )
rough sizes are
56mm long
42mm wide end
31mm thin end
is this right - they are HUGE !!!!!
See pics :D
Stu
thats them.....
ah right - so they are THAT big
that makes me feel better - i thought he had sent the wrong ones :D
sooo much stuff to do and so little time :(
i will have a play with these when i get back from holiday ( although i should really rebuild the clutch master cylinder first !! )
thanks again ant for the info :D
Stu
well spent a few hrs ( OK 3 evenings ) fitting these things
car does handle better
here are some shots of what came out :D
Picture 1
this is what the rear toe bushes look like when you remove them
Picture 2
Took it apart to see what it looked like - this is where it gets interesting
Picture 3
Yeah thats right - something really dodgy going on here
it looks like the passenger side bush failed sometime in the past - rather than being replaced the dust covers were removed and silicon was injected into it - and the dust covers replaced
if you think your car has a chequred past - then CHECK THESE NOW !!!!!!!!!!
i didnt get a chance to take pics as we did it :(
there was me and 2 mates doing it - so didnt want to annoy them with taking pics :S
i used this write up
http://www.mazdatrix.com/faq/rrsteer.htm
and removed the bushed in a vice in the garage - you need a good size bar to help doing this
*** WARNING ***
Do not try and remove the ABS sensor ( if fitted ) from the back hubs - open the door - remove the plastic sill cover ( 5 screws ) - and unplug the ABS from the wiring loom :D
feed this back thru the hole and remove with the hub - its held on with 4 bolts on the rear arm thingy - 12mm socket needed
*** WARNING ***
Well done in getting them done stu, Glad you found the ABS plugs.. I take it the work went well with out many probs:burnout
O i like it :)
So how did you find the Job? The Mazdatrix way does\'nt look too bad....
Have you got it all back together yet? What do you think?
Grinder the ace car Fixer!! welding one week then a bit off suspension work the next.......:god
thanks chaps :D
the works wasnt tooo bad to be honest
1 - monday - stripped the drivers side down and removed the bush
2 - tuesday - fitted DTSS and rebuilt drivers side and stripped down and removed the bush ( if you can call it that )
3 - wednesday - fitted DTSS and rebuilt passenger side and test drove
feels a LOT better - but the front end still has issues - i get an amazing amount of torque steer now ????
and yes ... im turning my hands to all sorts now on this car :D
i even polished it and i have a black car ... WOW
fitting the FMIC in the coming months :D :D :D
Stu
Stu you may need to get it 4 wheel aligned? if its been done with a Goosed bush then it\'ll be out of wack.
Thats not torque steer they call it Drifting :)
The bushes where completely gone when we swapped them over. Not as bada job as we thought.
Shaun
well done guys, and you wanted to do it on the car!!
What does DTSS stand for ?
My best guess: Dynamic Toe Steer System
(It\'s a passive rear steer mechanism based on a bush that flexes at a certain load point) The idea is it throws you into a corner better, then the bush locks up to hold you on track.
Some folks hate it, but it works once you\'ve got used to it
holy thread revival !! :D
Just wondering, did you get the bushes from Mazdatrix?
errrr yeah i think i did to be honest
anybody got pictues of how to attack these vushes / where they are?
i bought a FC.. which came with those bushes.. claimed to be solid Diff bushes.. but when fitting my solid engine and transmission mounts, i noticed the diff mounts were bigger...
so they are DTSS bushes, ill have a go at doing these tomorrow! need pics!
they\'re on the rear hubs. If you\'ve got something good at pulling bushes out you wont need to take the hub off. If you\'re using a vice or a press you will.
they\'re pretty tough to push in and out, but imo the hardest part is removing the hub

they are the ones, that have a rubber cap on arent they? inside the rubber cap, its filled with grease?
cheers
sounds about right. They have a bolt going through them that screws directly into the hub, there is no nut
reckon i could knock them out with a hammer and a socket? or even cut them apart with a hacksaw blade? and break them out?
cheers
hack saw? no idea how that\'d work.
hammer might do to get them out. Getting them in may be a struggle as you need to line them out, they\'re a very tight fit. If you can get you\'re hands on a vice, or use one at a garage, that\'d be the best way.
read post 8 for a link to do it

hack saw BLADE, to break the outside of the bush (metal part) .. i havent had a proper look yet.. sounds like fun though!
Would you be able to get out the old bush with an air chizzle? my mates got one at work and it works a treat on other bushes :)

that would be part of the hub? i think?
creech its a pretty normal bush so it should be fine. If the bush is very deteriorated it may be a struggle.
I vote a vice and some sockets, took me 5-10 minutes
with the air chisel it makes removing any bush ive had to change a breeze id rather not waste time removing the whole hub if i dont need to :) anyone that has to remove old bushes id recommend one of those a boys
ah fair play. It\'s pretty easy to remove the hub. It has to be about half off just to get to the bush
This is a nightmare to do, getting the metal insert of the bust out is a ballache!
the hardest part was removing the bushes... utter nightmare, still have 1 to do :( ..
also, them bolts, the sleeve is stuck on it, do i need new bolts?
the bolt that goes through the bush into the hub? You should have a sleeve with the bush kit. I\'ve got a few of those bolts knocking about if you want them
bolts are in the for sale section
the original bolts, were stuck in the bush, got them out now... i need a lsd if you know of any?
afraid not.
if you read some of the more recent threads about diffs it will give you some idea about what you can do
ive got an open diff :( .. so either welding it, or a FD diff of some sort.
Where do you get the DTSS bushes? would like to do this mod before going for tracking
have you given mazdarotaryparts a call?
Jono, if the car isn\'t being used as a daily, i\'d suggest welding the diff
