Title: Heater Matrix Leaking
Post by: gmogle on June 03, 2006, 04:29:31 PM
Hi,

Today I took the car out, had been fine driving it, stopped it for about 2 hours then drove it again and a mate suddenly said he was getting wet feet !!

We have poked about in the passenger footwell and it appears to be the Heater Matrix thats leaking.

Am told this is a big big job to replace, is this right ?

Very keen to do it myself as I have been quoted circa 500 quid to get it done.

Any ideas why this has suddenly failed ?

Cheers,

Gareth

Not the best of jobs to do, because of what has to come out to do it. Its just down to age and probably spending most of its life with no inhibitor in it. Once replaced chuck some of this in. Keeps temps down and corrosion inhibitor. Computer companies are buying this now and using to cool processors.

Hi Gareth,

It\'s not  big job in the sense it\'s difficult it seems more daunting in thought than it is in practise. If your first time it will take about 90 minutes to remove the dash then it\'s a couple of mins to replace the matrix.

Cheers for the help with this guys, Yeah I reckon its one of those jobs that I will just have to take my time with.

Thinking that as I am taking the dash out I might aswell paint the consoles at the same time.

Gary looks like a good purchase.

I have a matrix if you need one. No particular reason it\'s gone apart from old age. You may be lucky and find it\'s only a split pipe rather than the matrix.
Have you learned how to put your foot down yet or are you still driving about on 1/4 throttle :Giggle  just making trouble mate.

Lol very funny mate, the car itself was running great. Had the heat light come on when taking it for a fast run with 2nd turbo in 2nd gear but that has disappeared now.
Boost problems have completely been cured since I overhalled the rats nest and replaced a large number of components.

Must pop down and get the car mapping finished.

Am hoping once I get this heater matrix issue sorted I can enjoy driving the car. Although you did say once of the joys of owning an RX7 is that you are always working on it lol.

Have you finished the cars you were working on ?

Is it just a case of buying another 2ndhand replacement or does this need a new part ? If so anyone got an idea of the price ?

Cheers
