Title: Blown another coolant pipe
Post by: D1 WTF on June 03, 2006, 01:04:06 PM
as above.  this is the second coolant pipe that has sprung a leak.  would you think it is just because the pipes are old and deteriating, or do you think there could be a larger problem.

this tome it is the pipe under the induction box the goes from the rad to the bottom of the water filler on the block (i guess that kind of explains it)

Yeah mine went to...thats the rad top hose thats gone. I got a spare one which im not sure of its condition if you want for nothing? Otherwise Andy at jimmys sorted me out with a brand new one for a very reasonable £20 posted brand new.

When I strip the engine down, i plan on repolacing every hose with a brand new one inc vac pipes...that way you can have no complaints

Disconnecting the coolant pipe from the throttle body while you bleed it helps a great deal. Run it and then check the level again when cool.

Mine had a number of weeping pipes, so I replaced many of them when working on other parts of the engine. Rotecnics had a bag of them all in stock as a kit.

i never bled mine. as i understand it the ast removes a lot of the air from the system (well thats is job). The coolant buzzer came on one 2 days after i change the pipe, I topped up once and nevr ahd any probs since

i took it for a run to get it fully up to temp.   seemed fine no leaks etc.  although when i did stop and turn off, a faint gurge could be heard from the water filling point.  loosened the large grub screw and only water came out.  think it is ok, will check the level once it has completely cooled.

unless anyone knows of anything else to check etc?

Sorry, not true  - it removes tiny bubbles, but cant help you remove an air lock.

Yes, you can remove the pipe on the throttle body ad then top it up. Or, if you just keep topping it up after every drive, it will eventually settle.

lol, i knew it couldnt remove airlock! But is there any way an airlock will remove itself from the system?
