Title: Bodykits
Post by: Matt on October 28, 2003, 08:47:10 AM
Has anyone ever imported a body kit of from america before?

i really like the new veilside d1 kit, and i know its gonna be nearly 2k from nemesis. Its a lot cheaper nearly half price from the us but i was wondering if there was tax or anything else to pay that might make it more expensive than buying it here.

Cheers

Oh yes!

Usual horror story;

a) ask Clarkee how much he was quoted to ship a RB rear wing to the UK! Shipping for a full body kit I would estimate will cost you the best part of your right arm - possible the left one too :(

b) price to your door will be roughly:

Cost of kit+shipping = A
A x 1.045 (import duty) = B
B x 1.175 (vat) = C
C + say £100 for handling, customs clearance and delivery to your door = Price to your door

Nemesis still sound that expensive? Not much in it I doubt unless you get some fantastic shipping quote...

Let us know what the yanks say.

I think Andyp ordered a side skirt from abroad, and got stung for about £500 on top of the cost of the goods

but then he probably thought he was ordering a skirt to wear :)

yeah i worked it out using the price of the front bumper from veilsides site and it works out a little bit cheaper, as the bumper is $600 which i think it roughly about £400 so could save you about £200 if u get a good shipping price, but it could be a bit of hassle

I paid £300 shipping on ONE side skirt from Japan ended up costing me £650...

Having investigated in I am going to import everything myself for now on despite being slightly more hassle. Say that coz I could have had two for £100 more... I find it\'s so much cheaper.

Buying from Nemesis will only fund more of the Golden Paperweight ;)

when you say import yourself do u mean flying over to japan and bringing it over by ship or something

no I mean ordering from the USA and DHL\'ing it over... for my sideskirts, wasn\'t that much (£100 dhl I think) for two

I would avoid japan as it\'s more epensive and i\'ve found the shipping to my a heck or a lot more

you\'ll probably save yerself £100/200 quid but better than a kick in the teeth... something to put towards the spraying costs! hehe

p.s. if ya end up getting it, don\'t use the crappy tape they give ya, get it bonded on so it doesn\'t fly off!

Nemesis are changing there prices as they got all the prices wrong on their website give them a call. I imported all my kit from the US it is a pain in the arse and to be honest I would not do it again un less I could not get the kit over here. Once you have paid for the kit you have to pay for it to be sent freight mail then import charges then pay customs. I got mine from Rotary Extreme I have got to know Chuck quite well and he changed all the prices on the invoice for me so I paid less tax when it came into the UK. In the end I dont think you will make much of a saving plus you have to wait 6-8 weeks for delivery by freight and if it is broken it has to be all sent back.

I tried to get a veilside C1 copy front shipped over from the states. I was quoted $595, plus there would have been all sorts of tax and sh*t once it was over here....I only paid $150 for the kit on eBay!

Matt, I bought full c-west bodykit from the states with \'99 spec lights, tax and shipping came to £900 so be wary, tax is a bitch, like we dont get taxed enough already...:(
