Title: Fuel Advise
Post by: JayRX7 on October 27, 2003, 04:43:21 PM
Had my Rx for a few weeks now but have not realy used it much yet - being registered etc etc.

I\'ll put BP Ultimate fuel or Optimax in it, but do I need to do anything else?

Is it worth getting the ECU re-mapped - Who should I get to do this?

Any help would be great cos I don\'t really fancy the engine going bang because I\'ve not done something.

use super or optimax always

what ECU has it got ?
what mods ?

I find adding a small amount of crushed garlic usually allows me to up the boost by a few psi, also a sticker from halfords adds power I have heard

Class Dave, can always rely on you.

It\'s got a knightsports ECU and only other mods engine wise are HKS downpipes and a dump valve as far as I\'m aware.

Once it\'s registered I plan on taking it to someone to have a proper look over it to see what kind of other mods I shoud go for without over doing it.

Not sure who if anyone can remap a Knightsports ECU in the UK to be honest, have not heard of anyone doing them

Whatever mods it has, you should get it to a specialist who has a wideband O2 sensor to check its not running lean at all

If it has downpipes, they are likely 3inch, does it still have a CAT ?
stock exhaust ?

either way get it checked over tio make sure it ain\'t running lean

dependant on what its got and if that ECU can be mapped (doubt it) then you can start on the usual modding routes of filters, deCAT, downpipe, dump valve, intercooler etc etc

if it can\'t be mapped, get a APexi Power FC, common and very easy to map with each mod you do

I am off to portsmouth thursday if you fancy it

Have had it checked and compression\'s etc are pretty good.

Was running a little rough because it need new plugs etc and a decent service but seems ok now.

Def not a stock exhaust but it\'s some jap item and I can\'t tell the make.

I should find out more once it\'s registered etc etc - only sorted the insurance for it friday cos I\'m lazy.

Yeah I may come down on thursday with ya. I\'m at your place on weds so will see you then mate.

Just called Re-worx and noone in the UK can touch a knighsports ECU so if I wanted to do anymore engine mods on the car I\'d have to change the ECU.

At least I know now. Some much to learn still about these cars. I know the scoobies like the back of my hand, :D

Apexi Power FC from between £650-900 dependant on where you go

Optional Commander (little in car hand cotroler with to monitor and change settings) about £170-220

Optional Datalogit Software (for laptop tuning) about £200-300

I got the Apexi PFC from Reworx, could have got it cheaper mail order somewhere but bought it from Geoff as he was mapping it for me etc etc

It\'s worth noting that BP Ultimate is really only normal SUL at 97 RON and Optimax is ~98.6 RON.

The BP Ultimate is a real marketing wet-dream imho and adds lots of cleaning agents to try and convince people it\'s something special.

It may be wise to use some octane booster until you\'ve had a chance to get the car checked out wrt the A/F ratios as the mapping of an aftermarket ECU may be less tolerant of the lower octane in the UK.  Depends on how close to the edge it was mapped in JP though I guess.
