Post by: AndrewC on May 24, 2006, 10:09:58 PM
Hey guys!

Just wondering who is coming out to play at RS3?!

going to bring a 1985 in silver with elford turbo kit and enter RWYB or The RWD thing.

pushing an old motor hard so not expecting a prolonged engine life but its just a bit of fun. :driving

Never dragged a car before so its gonna be lots of learning!

few pics.

Hope to see you there!

Just to clear up, You can register on the day, But on monday the cut off time is about 12 pm to get your run in, It starts at 10am.  So if you are coming on Monday get there early to get checked over and signed on.

I will be bringing the Elford Turbo, But as I am doing the timing over the weekend i will not be running.   anyway i think it has the wrong engine hence my ignition timing issues !!!!!!!!!!!!!  good luck everyone. I will be watching you all from the best position...

the strut brace is the end plates from a 3rd gen with box section mild steel between them, took about an hour to create and cost a tenner!

will do a how too if people are interested?

Another elford! only just sorted the timing on mine, Why you think you got the wrong engine?

so who wants to play who got fastest 1st gen other than tim!  :god

If you look at my thread in this section i think the title is "elford pics"  you will see the general picture, It was only when i read an artical in a mag last week that the penny dropped.  the car runs out of go in the higher revs.  I have messed with new carb rebuild, checked all the turbo boost etc, Timing, advance,  then when reading it said that there were 2 different types of 12a, a small port to 81 100bhp and an extended port from 81  115bhp.  the later elford kits were deigned with the later engines even though they did do them on the early models as well.  So I would take a good guess that that is my issue.........................

no need for a welder ... looks like a hacksaw and a drill is required at the most :)

i found my elford ran out of puff at high end too, my problem was the stock fuel pump dropping pressure at high end, so i put a bigger one in with a fuel pressure regulator as the carb is really sensitive to pressure change.

Mummmm,  that sounds interesting..   I didnt give that much thought as it was carbed..   Do you think the small port engine also would give the same problem.   Mid range it pulls like a train untill about 5500 or so
Title: Who\'s bringing what to RS3?
Post by: AndrewC on May 25, 2006, 10:27:00 PM
erm to be honest you might not need to rev as high to make the power, i dunno with more boost mine wanted to rev higher and it pulls to about 6500 which is were i shift, i will tell you after i get a dyno run in!

but my standard system would lean out at high end as the fuel delivery was not high enough.

Good to meet you on Sunday Ollie. Enjoyed watching your Elford going up the strip very nicely, your times were very good.

Here\'s my stats for my second (better) run:

Car X36
Reaction 0.600
60\'    2.627
330\'   7.430
MPH1   61.30
660\'   11.397
990\'   14.707
MPH2   81.25
1/4 mile   17.63

Got a reaction time of 0.18627 on my first ever run......yeeeehaaaa!  :burnout

Pretty chuffed with time considering the car is completely stock and no weight removed. Great fun. Nice to meet you in person and some of the other club members and rotary enthusiasts.

Domonic,  were you in the very tidy blue gen 1??    I did see you run a couple of times,   I was doing the timing all weekend, I actually walked past you when you were waiting to line up, but by the time i came back down you had already gone. i was going to have a chat with you.  Looked a very nice original car.

Ollie it was good to have a quick chat, you seemed in a bit of a hyped up state, dont know if it was nerves or stress.   It looked well down the strip though, very similar times to haywood and era\'s gen1\'s  i think....

mmm i think we need a 1st gen leader board!!!

yer had just burst a rad hose on the previous run so was a bit nervous!

the engine survived, poor thing is on 100,000miles and getting the beating of its life... :evillaugh  but it pulled through to live another day.

gonna strip down a spare block and start working on a fresh motor soon so fingers crossed there is more to come.

OLDONE: you know how much power your car makes as we have similar terminals?

Cheers

Alban, yes was me in the blue 1st gen. Shame didn\'t get to meet you. Based on your avatar yours must have been the elford by the club stand, cant be many of those around in such good condition, very nice.

Ollie, I like your idea of a 1st gen 1/4 mile board. Maybe this could be a sticky in the 1st gen forum. Good luck with your fresh motor, r u going to do any porting?

your 13b shouldn\'t be as deafening unless you\'ve peripheral ported it likes Carls :Giggle

Absolute no idea, will go down to REWORX to get on the rolling road.......could have prepared her for the drags better, the ol rusted one was in daily driver trim, conservative timeing, choking air filter, full interior trim and cheap MOT tyres.I came to ROTORSTOCK to see the guys, not really to race.Maybe next time I will prepare for racing and not  :guinness .....laters :D
