Title: Single turbos...pros and cons?
Post by: DarranJones on May 24, 2006, 02:02:33 PM
Hi,

I\'ve been considering going single and wondered what the pros and cons are of the following kits: T04E, T04R, Apexi RX6, GT35R, etc.

Any thoughts?

Darran.

TO4E is a great daily driver turbo not much lag but wont produce huge amounts of power. Comes on boost at about 3 1/2- 4k, i have one on mine.

I don\'t know much about the GT35R good for and 400-450 i think?????

The TO4R and Apex\'i are more laggy but good for 450+ bhp i think these then so start spooling around 4k mark but i\'m not sure.

Its also depends weather to go for ball bearing kits which help the spool time.

Not much help sorry

What kind of power can you get out of a T04E?

I have a similar sort of problem. At the moment my secondary turbo isn\'t boosting properly (but I think its probably just a vacuum hose) so I\'m considering my options:

Basically, my car is a daily driver, so surely a single turbo will simplify things and mean something less to go wrong...but then what about cooling etc. (I do have an Apexi PFC so remapping isn\'t a problem)

Cos I use my car everyday I want it to be a bit more like a Grand Tourer rather than a racer so I\'m not looking for vast amounts of power. I really like the way the stock turbos kick in low down the rev range (and when its working the kick when the secondary comes in), so what about high-flow twins? I like the look of the Knight Sports ones on Newera.

With this in mind then the T04 seems like an ideal turbo, but there\'s different versions: T04E, T04R and T04Z right?

For every day to day nice quick spooling nice power Ball Bearing GT35R using a T4 frame is the best bang for buck turbo out there

I have some sort of T04S and it\'s brilliantly responsive, giving me 335rwhp at .85 Bar.

Probably a HKS turbo but it\'s had te internalls fiddled with, spools from 3K full boost at 3.5K :burnout

Should be good for 400rwhp, which imho is fduking plenty !!

A Greddy T78 turbo is the way forward!!  Got one on my car,she\'s running 380bhp at the wheels at 0.8bar.Plenty of scope in the turbo for more power.
Linked with a ported engine and bigger injecters etc etc,you don\'t feel any lag, just tons and tons of thrust!!! Superb bit of kit!!!
