Title: Paint Removal
Post by: allstaruk on May 23, 2006, 12:59:43 PM
Hi

I am in the processs of trying to remove the paint from the centres of my mazdaspeed ms01\'s as the gold has started to look bad and is flaking in places,  I have been using nitro moors from halfrauds as its and automotive paint stripper, it works but it isn\'t effective.

Can anone recomend a seriously strong paint stripper that would work as they seem to be poweder coated or better still are there any companyies that in the UK (preferably surrey area) that will chemically strip them for me, I have had a quick google and i can\'t seem to find any.

Any recomendations would be great this is getting boring now and i\'ve only done 1.

Alan

Your best bet in this case is to find someone that can sand blast them.

The issue with brake fluid is that is might get into the water supply (i.e. down the drain) and that\'s NOT good.

Brake fluid is\'nt as strong as Paintstripper!!

I don\'t know how you\'ve tried it already but this is how i usaly do it. First find a Black waste bag thet the wheel fits into nicly (that does\'nt have any holes in!!) nxt get a key of screw driver and without pushing on to hard brake the surface of the Paint (so the Striper can get under the paint) next apply lots of Paint striper (i mean so its got a good layer on) then rap well in the black bag (this is so the vapours don\'t evaprate) leave for 30mins then unrap and scrape off the loose stuff and if its not brought the lot off reaply and re rap, with it beeing wheel Enamle (spelling??) it may take a few atempts. When your done dont forget to wash the rim well with Hot soapy water..

If you don\'t want the messing about get them Bead Blasted!! its usaly ablut £5-10 a wheel and works very well, Avoid Shat blasting as it will damage the Alloy.
