Hello,
Basically what does Type R mean in the RX7 Range?? :2Rolleyes
Thanks :Giggle
It depends on the year mate. AFAIK the vast majority of FDs are Type R variants, it\'s what you might call the norm. I think some series varied slightly, for example i\'m pretty sure the series 2 FD (from late \'93) Type R had firmer suspension than other models during that series. Not including the RZ, of course.
After that i think the Type R is what you\'d call a standard RX-7. There were lots of other variants, such as the Type X (this was a more luxury-orientated FD, with a Bose sound system, leather and automatic transmission), and the Bathurst range (these are popular and desirable as they represent a sort of \'clubsport\' package, and are slightly lighter i believe. At the time they were also cheaper than the Type R as the equipment levels were lower).
The pinnacle of the FD range has always been the RZ, they were only released in limited numbers and had amazing spec, from the awesome carbon recaro\'s to BBS alloys, diff final drive, bigger brakes, slight reduction in overall weight and Bilstein suspension. Some of the RS models also had that suspension set up i believe.
Oh i\'m forgetting the most recent special FD, the Spirit R. This is as good as they come, and was available in 3 types, A was the lightest and most race-inspired, B was the same but with leather buckets and rear seats, and C was the auto tourer of the bunch.
Sorry a bit of a ramble that, but i hope it helped a little. :)
Have a read of this...

That\'s a great link, forgot about all that info from Brian! As you can see the spec of the Type R changes from year to year (in all there were 6 series of the 3rd gen RX-7) so your best bet is to check Brian\'s post and look at the Type R description for the series that you have.
