Title: T65 turbo any good for FD ???
Post by: shaunwil on May 17, 2006, 06:36:48 PM
Just having a casual conversation with a setter at work and he has what he thinks is a garrett t65 turbo on the shelf.

Is this big enough for a rotary?

I\'ve heard of t78 and t88 but never t65. He said he would bring it in for me to look at and i\'ll hopefully get more info tommorrow.

Just out of interest at the min, hopefully may be able to do it as a stop gap towards getting a gt35r !

Cheers

Shaun

Sorry mate, no idea. I do know that the best one for all round is the T04Z. But when I go single this year it will be a T51. :Thumbs-up

I think the time is measures in decades :)  I\'m just looking at options and have pretty much decided on the T04Z - it\'s the compromise between top end power and response.  Thought about the T51 but am going to go for less power and quicker spool.

I\'m not going to compete with the big boys so track friendliness is key.

No clue what a T65 would compare to though!

I have a t78 and its a right monster, so im guessing a t65 would still be a fair size, they are old technology though so spooling isn\'t exactly up there with the t04\'s of this world!

I have heard of a T66 but not a t65. Find out if its a T3 or T4 frame, a pic would be good with a coke can next to it give me same idea of size.
I dont think ive hit the limit on top end power yet on my T04Z! Going to get it mapped for 1.6 BAR when my new fuel mods go in, hopefully see 500 at the wheels, plus I spool up nicely at 3800 rpm

What boost would you have needed to run that kit at around 380-400rwhp?

On my ported engine

10psi I get 350rwhp
14psi I get just over 400rwhp

I just hope its the either a t4 or t3, I can get the gt35r in either from aspec in usa so can get all the manifolds and bits, maybe run the t65 and then upgrade to the 35r afterwards.

Hes definately got my interest, Think i\'ll i\'ll ring pip and ask how much the manifolds, downpipe and wastegate are :p

You want to go T4 frame manifold, then you have a lot of options on turbos, plus you wont hurt top end power by choking it with the smaller T3 manifold

Cheers. I spotted that through google and 350 bhp with 20psi doesn\'t seem all that good. I think i need to find out some more info off pip about what he offers on the gt35r front and then get  my finger out and save up the cash !

There isn\'t a great cost difference in the t3 and t4 gt35rs either !
