Title: brakes clunking
Post by: anthony on May 17, 2006, 02:51:07 PM
is it normal to hear the brakes make like a clunk, you can hear it if u r say in traffic, put your foot on the brake you can hear the calipers make a like clunk noise as they bind if you are only light with the pedal..

before i go about jacking up and taking the wheel off, looks like a big pain with no uncovered chassis members to lift it up on.. :/

shims n pins dude - these expire after a while - pretty simple to change esp if you need new pads anyway

Or they have been left out when replacing.

Now thats Timing...

Today i have replaced one of the calipers on a mates Fd becouse if you where rolling slowly and tap the brakes it would make a Clunk noise, then start Rattling like there was somthing loose, we decided it was coming from the OSF Brakes (rattling would go if you rested your foot on the peddle) I pulled it to bit and gave the caliper a good looking over and the only thing i could spot was the pad seemed quite loose in the caliper. I went home and measured the pad rest points on My car and his and there was quite alot of a diffrence so Today i swaped the caliper with one i had about and its stopped?

TBH if the Brakes where Squeeling i\'d say Shims, the Pins may be worn though?
