I would doubt very much if 12 weeks would be enough to damage your engine, and it would depend on what the oil was, I only use Royal Purple fully syn in all my RX\'s whether turbo or n/a, but than I sell it so would be bias. Seriously Royal Purple is one of a very few that wont harm your rotary but would actually benefit it. Mineral is a crap oil and its only advantage I can see is its price.

Don\'t worry Chris there\'s lots of scare stories about using synthetics but hands up anyone thats had any problems due to using them. I for one use synthetic oil in mine and know of a number of others that do also without problems.

M@r]{, I\'m using 10w40 Royal Purple that I got from Gary.  I believe that this should be fine for road use with the occational trackday.

Castrol GTX3 15W-40 all the way.
Take care about the oil temps, as mineral oil will loose lubracation above 120 to 130 degrees.

Different oils will recommend different grades.

I would not see any issues at all with putting a 10w-40 synthetic in your car especially if the engine has been rebuilt as there are no compatability issues with seals over the last 10 years.

I personally run synthetic in my rotary and recommend it as a better option if the car is driven hard or modded as they are more thermally stable and therefore stay in grade better protection for longer without loss of performance.

Look up my thread on synthetics and the rotary, it\'s well researched as I run one myself.

Too many old wives tales here about synthetics, they are superior in every way and contrary to rumour they burn cleaner as well.

I seriously wonder whether the cause of premature failure in Rotaries is down to poor oil quality causing premature wear, certainly there is a lot of expert evidence that backs up this.

A decent ester based one is the best for the tips as it is polar and the best form of lubrication as used in all jet engines for the last 40 years!

If anyone has any oil questions feel free to visit the Opie Oils stand at Rotorstock, I would be happy to chat.

Cheers
Simon

Are we all agreeing that fully synthetic is the way to go then? Am I ok to continue to use Mobil 1 15w 50 Motorsport Formula, fully synthetic.

What a bloody mind field owning one of these cars is!!

Do a search, lots has been said, but it needs to be a double ester based oil to be good, Royal Purple and Motul I believe are. The rest are not true fully synthetics. Read oil mans threads he says it all in them.

This is shocking!

People saying mineral is best, others say fully synthetic but its not really synthetic.

Everyone list what oil they are using and why.

Mobil1 15w 50 Motorsport Formula Fully Synthetic. Jap Mechanic told me too!!

We only sell Royal Purple, is crudentials speak for them self, have a read hear
http://www.rotaryart.uk.com/acatalog/Royal_Purple_Oil.html
and here
http://www.rotaryart.uk.com/acatalog/why-synoil-was-dev.pdf

If you read some of the post from Oilman, you will read he says that lots of fully syn oils are not, and says they are hydrocracked. Not good. Read his posts.

We only sell one great oil, thats is used in professional motorsports with huge success, that is we believe better than any other on the market, is best for rotary as well as piston cars. No confussing tech papers, the oil just speaks for itself.
John from FDUK has been using it for 4-5 years and now has probably the oldest original engine in an fd and is now with single turbo, at Rockingham last year with the Jap drift guys were excited when they saw Royal Purple on our stand. All our rotary\'s run on it and with no problems.

The great oil debate will go on for ever, some will bury there heads in the sand and say "dont touch what dont need fixing" as they use mineral oil because its cheap and for no other reason, and each garage will sell you what they have in stock.
Only you guys can make your minds up what you want to use, whether it be based on cost, experience, or whatever.

Castrol GTX 10w40  Mineral.  Why?  Cos WGT said my engine rebuild would be void if I used Synthectic!!

And thats because there are synthetics that are not fully syn or hydrocracked, there are lots of cheap syn oils that probably no good. But to keep a warentee is a good reason.

When my car is rebuilt, I will be going for mineral. I believe it is the most compatible with the rotary, and providing you do an oil change every three thousand, and treat the car right, you will be rewarded for years.
