Title: Haydens RX-3
Post by: mullins on May 15, 2006, 07:57:45 PM
I\'ve pretty much decided to modify the RX-3 so I thought I\'d do some shopping and picked up one of these stainless dumpy mufflers. It\'s designed for high horsepower Rotaries so will have to wait till my next engine but it should look quite good!
Yes I know you can see me  :WaveBye

Forgot to mention - I ordered this muffler on a Thursday but they were out of stock and had to make a fresh one for me. I had it by Saturday :Thumbs-up

No he is back now and needs to be spilling the beans on what he is going to do! :)
cheers, michael. Oh and I see what you mean about seeing you in the reflection. Do you have alot of trouble walking about with one leg so much shorter than the other? he, he, he..

Hi lads, okay time to spill...

The muffler is 3" in and 4" out
It cost $350 NZD (£125 approx)
I brought it back in my suitcase :Giggle

Plans for the RX-3 are basically better wheels, brakes and suspension and then eventually paint and engine. It will probably be a similar route to which Mike is taking with the 323.

I got the 10A running at the weekend with the aid of a new set of plugs but it refuses to idle (even when warmed up) and floods so I\'ve got to have a look at the tune (hopefully all it is). I\'ll use the 10A to get me around until I drop a Hayward 13B bridge in. :mmmm

My original plan was to keep the car stock but I\'m getting bored and the paint really isn\'t in good enough nick to keep so retro modified it is! :cheers

We\'ll hopefully have some updates on that after RSIII ... there aint no fixed plan though ;)

I got it from a mag and turbo outlet (they are throughout N.Z). I\'m looking at freight options atm as I have a few people interested in these and may be able to organise a group buy of some sort. They also make the funky rotor shaped barrels!

Give the carby a good clean Hayden... or maybe send it to Heyward Rotary for rekitting.  I am sure it is nothing too serious - give the 10a a chance before you get too far into modifying the 3.

Work has finally begun.

I\'ve had a bit of a measure up for the springs. The photo below is about where she\'s going to end up - maybe a little lower.:evillaugh

Here\'s a few more progress pix......

Hmmm, here\'s a comparison between a GB spring (left) and a NZ spring. Bearing in mind this car was {supposedly} always garaged it\'s quite rusty!

Well done. Seeing that 3 makes me want one. Maybe once I get the 323 gone and decide what to do with the 7 then things will become clearer.
Lets get together and tell lies and have a beer

I love all the old school Mazdas ( Ive got a soft spot for the RX3\'s though) and would purchase anyone of them tbh if I could. They dont seem to come up for sale much though or maybe I have been looking in the wrong places.

I\'m greedy I want one of each please.. :Laugh

Gotta love the old R100\'s as well, I\'m greedy too. If I had the space and the money my garage would consist of an R100, Rx2, Rx3, Rx4, Cosmo, Rx7 Series 1 :Laugh

I read there is an Rx5? is that right, super rare though? or maybe I read wrong?

Post by: Dominic on September 18, 2006, 07:34:07 PM
Wasn\'t the Cosmo going to be called the Rx5? Apparently Mazda skipped the Rx6 because it was difficult to pronounce and the number 6 is considered unlucky in Japan or something like that, ha ha....... very superstitious the Japanese...

Apparently the number 8 in Japan is supposed to bring wealth and prosperity, well it seems to be working for Mazda and the Rx8. Rx9 sounds a bit funny though...

Yep there is an RX5. MOst people think that they are ugly but they are pretty cppl cars. Decent suspension, 4 wheel disk brakes etc. So come on hayden whats going on with the 3?? Tubbed yet?
 cheers, michael.

No progress lately. Getting some suspension stuff from Oz arriving just before xmas. Was going to go hard out (big brakes, engine, etc) but now I just want it back on the road! I\'ve been told it\'d be a shame to modify it, and now I feel too guilty to change it much.

Playing around with doing my own rebuild on an Elford turbo atm. Keeps me away from the RX-3! :Giggle

Got a spare Elford turbo unit and ancillaries lying around if you need any bits. Also got complete exhaust system for the Elford.

Got rid of the 5 cars today, both bad mazdas, Datsun 120a coupe and Sapporo, going to mot the 1000 and then I will try to recoup some money, always getting old cars in my yard (must have 20 cars in various stages of decay, 1960 to 1999) all very cheap, golf cabrio on a V plate £1000 needs parts though blah blah blah, if someone wants the 70,000 mile mazda (the 10,000 was cleaner but I think engine was seized \'cos would not turn over and water just poured out the block (I think). Any one want photos, I will send them to you
