Hi all,
Having just got a new job I became entitled to a car. The list from which I could choose was effectively any car on sale, so I set about compiling a short-list. First draft looked like this...
Honda S2000
VW Golf R32
Subaru Impreza WRX
Ford Focus RS
RX-8
When I initially got the job I automatically assumed I\'d get the S2000 - I\'ve loved them since they were launched. I added the RX-8 to the list as something of a novelty, and because I always liked the RX-7, but thought it was a long-shot.
The Ford was out early, as they are all sold. The Subaru followed due to being common and having a pretty naff interior.
I got a test drive in the R32 and wasn\'t impressed. It made a great noise, handled and rode well but the engine didn\'t suit my style... bye bye Golf.
So, that left the favourite S2000 and the outsider RX-8.
A Honda dealer was good enough to let me have a demonstrator for a whole weekend. What a fantastic car, everything I thought it would be, and it really suited my driving style. BUT... as a 3-year prospect, to include all-year, all-weather use for doing business as well as personal driving it just wouldn\'t work.... so it was consigned to the \'no\' list.
I went to see the RX-8 in a Mazda dealer and was impressed. I haven\'t driven one yet (test drive booked for 6 Nov) but have, nonetheless, ordered a Winning Blue 230 with black leather and sat-nav. Aside from one spurious comment, I haven\'t read a bad word about it, so I\'m looking forward to my first drive and then delivery in February.
So, if you don\'t mind waiting, I\'ll post pics next year!
