Title: Electrical Problem?? Maybe
Post by: Icesurf3r on May 15, 2006, 11:58:38 AM
This has got me confused!! Driving to Hull yesterday, and as i came off a roundabout, the fuel gauge dropped to absolutely nothing ( i know i had about 1/2 tank left) but no low fuel light. There it stopped for quite a while, even after turning the ignition off and leaving the RX parked for about 30 minutes.

On restarting the car it still registered empty, then on my way home, started to move up slowly, then give the correct reading for a while, it then overread, before dropping back to empty.

Does anyone have any ideas what the problem could be?? Or where i could start looking??

Also the coolant temp guage on the dash doesn\'t work (this worked fine before i left it with a vendor) any ideas on how to get that working too?? I know its not the most accurate guage, i usually use the Commander unit. it would just be nice to have all the guages on the dash working correctly.

Cheers in advance

Please can somebody help me out here!!!

I really can\'t afford to take the RX to Pip or other rotary specialist. Is it something a normal auto electrician could possibly solve???

Someone out there must have some idea what the problem..... i really need to get this sorted before RS :(

not an expert but the sender is really just a float and elec contact but it is prob a bitch to get at as its prob in the tank with the pump.the coolant temp sender is one the back of the filler housing it is a green connector.check the connection but once again hard to get at.i see little option other than paying someone to diagnose

Sounds like a dodgy sender or gauge, any auto electrician should be able to sort it for you. If you can get the sender out there pretty easy to check with a multimeter.
