Title: Corner Seal Gauge ?
Post by: paul3944 on May 14, 2006, 02:51:31 PM
The FSM calls for this and is listed as a priority tool, but looking at various rebuild threads and watching the Atkins video it does\'nt seem to be used?

Could anyone shed any light on this please.

I\'m guessing you mean a tool to measure the gap between the corner seals and side seals?
Side seals come oversize and you have to grind them down in order to fit them between the corner seals, you then need to measure the gap between the two and get it within certain tolerances, i\'m assuming to account for heat expansion etc.
All you need to do this is a set of feeler gauges, its like a little penknife with loads of thin strips of metal that fold out, each with a slightly different thickness.

here\'s the one I bought, in fact I got most of my tool from there, over about £40 and it\'s free next day delivery too!

Thanks for the reply.

In the FSM (89-91 page C39) (93 & 94 page C51) it looks like a 5" long bar poss 1/2" thick with different shaped ends it\'s used for measuring the corner seal bores and can determine if a rotor is good or scrap.

Building up parts for a rebuild but dont want to come unstuck.

hmm never seen or heard of it, could you not just use a corner seal and check it sits in nicely?
Or take the rotors to a specialist (don\'t know which one is closest, as you have no location) and most of them (if not all) will check them over for free for you. :)
