Hi guys, me again!!
I\'m getting the smell of petrol when I first start my baby, it tends to linger a bit as well. Does anyone else get this/is it normal? If not, where should I be looking?
I had a quick nose around the engine bay, but couldn\'t see much. I saw three rubber hoses coming up from the passenger side of the bulk head in the engine bay, and presumed that one, all, or sme of them were the petrol hoses. Was I right?
in my experience could be 3 things really
1) it\'s running a bit lean.. often the case for it to be a bit stinky
2) you do have a leak, though normally you can smell those inside the car quite strongly
3) could need a replacement fuel filter (bout £50 + fitting)
I think it\'s #1 though :)
but then wadaa I know :(
Sorry, forgot to say that I smell this mostly from inside the cabin. Would this mean that it\'s a leak?
If it\'s number 1, how do I sort it!!?
hmm i\'d say so, had that in my old calibra :(
if it turns out to be #1 bit of remapping maybe needed on ya ecu, assuming you got some mods?
saying that thou, mine is quite a strong smell on startup but it goes after a while, they are a bit stinky
Only a crappy hose...you got a local mazda dealership that would have a look at it? or a local mechanic? Not sure what\'s around Bristol? Best thing to do imo is get someone to check it over
I got my bro!! He used to be a mechanic, and know\'s his way round an engine. He said last night that it could just be the way it is on these cars at startup, and that\'s why I\'m posting really - to find out if other people get it or just me!
I got a couple of mods, nothing major. Pretty standard as far as I can see: dump valve and big bore after market exhaust. All on it when I bought it!
And, just going off point here a bit: I see you used to have a calibra, just like I currently do. Is it common for people to go from a cally to an RX7!!? (My calibra had a bit of a leak on startup once as well, just needed the hose tightening to sort it out!)
yeah it\'s quite likely. Might be a good idea to find out last time the fuel filter was changed though, these are often missed in servicing
as I say, mines quite smelly, not like any other car i\'ve had but i\'ve smelt other at meets at they are kinda the same
I went from my Calbra to my Rex coz I couldn\'t stand it anymore. Parts went wrong every 5 mins (had to replace the exhuast 4 times in 5 years for example) and it was getting long in the tooth, thought i\'d be sensible and go Jap :)
