Title: stuck coilovers!!!!
Post by: McCARTHY on May 09, 2006, 08:33:41 PM
As is says above the rings on my coilovers are stuck!!!! I can\'t get them apart to adjust the ride hight. I think they have kind of seized together. Now i have tried c spaners, c spaners with polls on the end, various lubricants and WD-40 type products, big monkey wrench and still i cannot sperate the rings in order to move them!!!

Any ideas would be great cheers people, i can only make the assumption the owners of the car previously just chucked them on and never lubricated or looked after them in the way coilovers need to be looked after.

I have seen some stubborn one\'s but  have never seen locking plates get that tight before, are you sure your not turing them together rather than apart?

Right...I take no responsibility for this but I had to free some seriously welded together tein coilovers once, I heated them up with a blowtorch then smacked the rings with a big hammer and appropriately shaped drift to free them up.

It said on the gas struts...Wanring "Do not heat"  !! :rollin

I suggest this is going to be your only solution, but be afraid !!

Forgot to point out, the one ring was in a vice while hitting the other, also this will mash up the rings a bit, but will get the job done.

Good luck !! :rollin
