Title: Can an auto FD be easily converted to a manual??
Post by: Nobbie on May 09, 2006, 02:00:21 PM
As above really, see an FD with a auto box, and the reason its so cheap is due to a fault on the box.

Just wondered in a simple swap to a manual box would be easy?
Are the mounts the same on the auto\'s?
All i would need would be a manual box, and linkage, inc gear lever?

I\'ve seen quite a few FD\'s that were originally autos with a manual box. I think a few people did it to get the sunroof, and different interiors with a manual.

I know "Brett Single" has his auto box out and will be putting in a manual within the next couple of months. I\'ll give him a shout and see if he can make notes as he goes along.  He\'s got a thread somewhere that\'s keeping track of his work.

Cheers, Jode

you will need to change your rear engine- housing. The auto housing will not take manual box.

i looked into this before i bought an FD as there was a fantasic looking auto for  sale but i wanted a manual and i was told i\'d need to chenge

-the rear housing as the auto has different fitting and the manual wouldn\'t fit
-part of the wiring loom
-prop sharft and rear diff (as final drives are different)

Thought as much, okay maybe not worth the saving on an auto, when for less hassle and a little more £ a manual can be had.

Was just an idea again.

Given you can\'t get an auto box anymore, mine is currently under conversion at ReWorx - give them a call, as they have done more than a couple, so have a pretty good idea of the work involved.

Cheers
