Title: choke cut off
Post by: ceendee on October 22, 2003, 04:57:08 PM
Could someone pls help? My 93 type r has developed a problem with the choke not seeming to cut off. This is leaving the car (when up to engine temp) reving to about 1200 then dropping straight down to 750 and so on.Could someone tell me if this could be a sensor and where it is pls .

The cold start runs off a little plunger which pushes downwards once warm. This pushes an arm attached to the throttle assembly to the right of the plenum (bulkhead side) as opposed to the throttle which operates from the left (front of car) side of plenum.

Look at your oil filter, just above it (literally 2cm) is an arm under a little plunger. With engine running from cold, push the arm down with your finger. Cold start should stop working. If it does, you have found it.

I have mine off all the time, but you could have a look at it and see if you need to either adjust the arm, or more likely get a new plunger.

Thanx  for the advice. I have tried this when cold (at start up) It will then rev at around 1750rpm and when i pushed the plunger etc it drops to the 750 normal tick over .However when it is warmed up, and is playing up as i mentioned, the same thing does not happen. Sorry to be a pain .This has only happened since ive started using the new B.P ULTRA  petrol

Don\'t think the fuel would be anything to do with it.

So pushing the arm when the engine is warm does not lower the revs?

If thats the case then its not the cold start but something else making it rev too high!!
