Title: intake manifold vs plenum
Post by: vxer on May 04, 2006, 01:32:56 PM
Hi there,

I\'m told the metal thing on the top of the engine is in fact the \'plenum\' and not the intake manifold. Looks like an intake manifold to me!

What and why? :)

Cheers, Paul.

I think that\'s right.

In reverse from the engine - Intake Manifold (it\'s underneath the Plenum and bolts on to engine and plenum) - Plenum - Throttle Body - Throttle Intake - Pipe to Air Intake / Intercooler.

Plenum is where your Fuel and Air get to say hello...  :mmmm

I suppose it can\'t really be called a \'manifold\' as a manifold in the traditional sense is some form of pipework that bolts directly to the enigne. That part does not. However, it is often call the Upper Inlet Manifold, and the actual intake manifold called the Lower Intake Manifold.

Works for me! :)

Are we talking FD? The FD doesn\'t have a plenum as such, it has 4 long runners which lead pretty much from the throttle butterflys to the ports.

I was talking FD, yeah. Could these runners be referred to as tubes?

In which case it would be an intake manifold afterall, wouldnt\' it? :)

Cheers, Paul.

gentle with the vacume hoses, and check valves. TPS wire will be easier to disconect after you have unplugged the white conector on Throttle By-Pass solenoid. Blue Air Temp sensor underneath Plenum (yup, plenum) hand in from gearbox end.
