Title: AVC-R vs Greddy Profec B on a FD
Post by: chrno on May 03, 2006, 10:29:21 AM
As the topic states, wich one is prefferd on the FD.
I had a AVC-R on my s14 and am very familliar with the setup on them but I have read that on FD\'s they dont hold boost al that well..

I have tried the search function but I dont find any "straight answers except for one thread that likes the Greddy one better, so a bit more info would be very nice.

Whats the general opinion on the best Boostcontroller for the FD. And it doesn\'t have to be the Greddy or Apexera ones.

Regards, Daniel

Hi there Daniel,

i have the AVCR fitted to my \'93 FD and have no problems with it holding boost at all. Have heard few stories from some people saying it don\'t work, but cannot fault it myself! Did a little reading into it and seems as long as you don\'t start setting the boost in the different gears  then your be fine. a good site to visit is http://robrobinette.com/boost_avc_r_install.htm.

To also be fair though i have no experience with any other boost controllers, i would guess some of it comes down to personal choice though.

Cheers Stu

Hi Stu,

Thanks alot for your input, As long as I get different peoples feelings/experiences thats good enough for me to make my own conclusions..

The good thing with the AVCR on my silvia was that it made it a little mor responsive and that is just what I want. Key word for my new car will be RESPONSE!. :P

A warning from many Silvia users incl myself on the AVCR though is:
Dont switch between Setting A and B on the unit. As this seems to mix them up and if you happen to have a high boost setting on B.. you could end up with a damaged engine... I don\'t say that this will happen on every unit. But it has on many people\'s units.

But please people..  more thoughts!!  Whats the pros on the Greddy unit?

I have not heard many good things about how the AVCR controlls the boost but can\'t for the life of me understand why?

I\'m thinking of buying a Black AVCR pending upon feedback on this thread  :D

I recomend them..
