Title: Air filter question
Post by: jamie_eaton on April 29, 2006, 09:07:32 AM
I think i know why my bhp figures are a bit lower than thought now.
Im running a t88 turbo all mapped by pip wgt and managed to 342 at the wheels.
Its just come to me that air filters have bhp ratings??, i just bought a cheap and nasty £5 universal one off ebay to get me by, could this be the reason?, am i starving the turbo of air?.

I still have my hks mushroom filter, my plan is to replace the foam filter with a nice new clean yellow one!!.
I need a reducer though from 4" to 72mm though not sure if i should go for a samco reducer or what.

would going back to this filter help me??, any help will be apreciated, cheers J

Hi jmaie
Have a look here
http://www.rotaryart.uk.com/acatalog/Universal_filters.html
I have every K&N universal filter , with all measurements and bhp ratings, would probably work out cheaper to buy a filter to go ratrher than adaptors and filters etc.
Silicon reducers here

If your turbo cant get enough air that could contribute, although I know of other very well set up cars that with the wrong compressor and exhaust housing set ups are seeing huge loses, but its a good starting point, and certainly the cheapest.
