Title: Whining accessories ....
Post by: Smifta on April 28, 2006, 03:45:10 PM
Hey All,

Recently I\'ve noticed that the accessories (not 100% sure which) are whining. I don\'t drive the car a huge amount and the loud exhaust covers up any smaller noises. But I can hear it *just*....

Also,
When I do a sharp turn, there is a really loud whail from under the bonnet (p/s pump?), so I imagine the two may be connected.

It\'s not immediately obvious with my head under the bonnet though where the noise is comming from....

Anyone else experienced anything similar, or fancy thowing 2p in?

Cheers,
Alex.

Quickest way to test the ps pump is to loosen the idle pulley below to slacken off the belt then remove it, then start the car again, now i\'ve never had aircon on mine so not entirely sure if it\'s as straightforward with the aircon belt on but looks like the idle pulley provides tension on that also so you\'ll probably have to remove the aircon belt or tighten the idle pulley back up again.

Having no power steering won\'t do any harm in the short term, you\'ll still be able to drive and steer it although will feel heavy, but you only need to test it anyway. If it is the ps pump bearing then someone will have a spare pump for sure. It\'s easy to replace yourself provided you have an impact wrench. Id say 30mins tops.

Hope that helps..

Check your powersteering fluid, whining can be caused from a lack of fluid.. :cheers
